  • Vanity - Is Pope Francis turning out to be 'Petrus Romanus'

Petrus Romanus, qui pascet oves in multis tribulationibus, quibus transactis civitas septicollis diruetur, & judex tremendus judicabit populum suum. Finis. I am generally skeptical of the St Malachy prophecy, but seemingly it appears to be coming fulfilled.

Half of Freeperdom seems to have been caught up in the speculation that Pope Benedict XVI's successor would be Peter the Roman, the final pope before the end of the world. But the gospel plainly said that you shall not know the day nor the hour. How can end-of-the-world prophecies be true AND the gospel be true? Simple: the end-of-the-world prophecies must be fulfilled in secret. But how? Simple: Pope Benedict XVI is still the pope! Sure, other popes have resigned, but they quickly died afterward. Benedict hasn't even left the Vatican! Think about it: Pope Francis won't even wear...

2013 Be Not Afraid: Catholic Families and the Prophecies of St. Malachy By Donald Prudlo, Ph.D. The announcement of the renunciation of Pope Benedict and the preparations for the conclave have once again brought to light the so-called “Prophecy of the Popes,” sometimes attributed to St. Malachy. At every papal election, these “prophecies” are trotted out, with the attendant tortured explanations about how their trite, nebulous descriptions fit whoever the pope in question is.  During this election some have been especially alarmed that the prophecies end with the next pontificate. It is good to give this issue a brief consideration...

  • 2012 Doomsday: It's not just Mayan claim

Countless cultures predict end-time scenario this year An author investigating ancient prophecies is again sounding the alarm about numerous predictions suggesting 2012 could be the beginning of the “end of the age” spoken of in the Holy Bible. Last year, WND reported on Tom Horn’s efforts to let everyone to know calendars besides the ancient Mayan one predict the demise of human civilization in 2012, and he claims a demonic plot bringing about the end date could be hiding in plain sight inside the U.S. Capitol. He’s now continuing his effort to publicize the matter with speeches across the nation,...
  • St. Malachy's prophecy, misread?

I hate to encourage any silliness about the prophecy of St. Malachy, which supposedly list every pope from Pope Celestine II (AD 1143). But I just found out that everyone who's been going around citing how Benedict XVI is the last Pope before Petrus Romanus has been following the same wrong translation. There is no numbering of the popes. Each phrase is simply interpreted as referring to a separate pope. The last several popes are listed as such: De medietate lunæ. De labore ſolis. Gloria oliuæ. In Psecutione extrema S.R.E. ſedebit. Petrus Romanus, qui paſcet oues in multis tribulationibus: quibus...
