Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) is throwing his support behind controversial presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. "I'm 100 percent," Santorum said Tuesday during an interview on Fox News's "On The Record," when asked if he was supporting or endorsing Trump. "That's endorse." Santorum, who backed Marco Rubio after dropping out of the race himself in February, said he spoke with Trump more than a week ago and he said the businessman asked for his support. The former Senator indicated a top reason for endorsing Trump is the vacant Supreme Court seat. Santorum said he made a couple suggestions...

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump appeared on Fox News last night, where he fielded a question from a viewer who wanted him to “name one specific thing he would do to protect the sanctity of human life.” The GOP candidate quickly turned his focus to judicial nominees: “I will protect [life] and the biggest way you can protect it is through the Supreme Court and putting people in the court. And actually the biggest way you can protect it, I guess, is by electing me president.” Trump added that he expects to name “as many as five” high court...
  • Group Applauds Trump For Hiring Adviser With 'Deep Pro-Life Roots'

Pro-life organization Susan B. Anthony List praised Donald Trump for hiring John Mashburn as a campaign policy adviser, calling Mashburn an "excellent hire, especially for the pro-life movement and our legislative priorities." "I have known and respected John Mashburn for many years," SBA president Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement. "He is a smart strategist with deep pro-life roots. John is well-respected across every issue set. For him, the life issue is foundational and one which helped draw him into politics." "I have known and respected John Mashburn for many years," SBA president Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement. "He...

(RNS) More than 50 conservative Catholic activists and political leaders have come out in support of Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz in an effort to shore up Catholic backing for Cruz as an alternative to Donald Trump. Among them is a priest from South Carolina who may be skirting the edges of his own church’s policies against clerics becoming involved in politics. Trump is currently leading the three-man GOP field and has drawn strong primary support from Catholic voters despite his controversial rhetoric and past stands on key issues like abortion rights, which he once supported. The Catholics endorsing Cruz,...

You can see the exact moment last week that Donald Trump made up his mind on whether women would face criminal punishment once he signed new restrictions into law. He is at a town hall with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, and, after Matthews badgers him for a while, he finally answers the question. “The answer is ... that,” Trump says, eyes looking to the side in thought, “there has to be some form of punishment.” He punctuates “has” with a hand gesture. Done. Final. But as it turns out — and as it has turned out repeatedly over the course of...
  • As Nominee, Donald Trump Would Do Incalculable Damage to the Pro-Life Cause

I agree with Quin Hillyer. Donald Trump’s comments on abortion — first advocating punishing women who abort then backtracking hours later — were indeed a “mess.” They played into the hands of abortion advocates in every way — helping caricature pro-lifers as “anti-woman” and raising the specter of back-alley abortions. So far, Trump’s pro-life conversion has mainly served to make Planned Parenthood look good (he can’t stop praising the nation’s largest abortion provider) and the pro-life movement look bad. He simply has no idea how to talk about arguably the most sensitive issue in politics.

It’s been two decades since Patricia Heaton first made her mark on Hollywood as Debra Barone in “Everybody Loves Raymond,” but now she’s making waves in a very different way…on social media. Heaton, whose Twitter followers have gone from 69,000 to 324,000 in the past four years, is known for commenting about the latest political news, especially when it concerns the Republican party. According to the L.A. Times, the 57-year-old is pretty active within the GOP, including her role as honorary chairwoman of Feminists for Life, an anti-abortion group. However, Heaton revealed Monday morning the one presidential candidate who could...

Texas Senator Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) stated of fellow candidate Donald Trump “If someone is actually pro-life today, would you perhaps ask God for forgiveness for spending 60 years advocating for partial-birth abortion?” And that Trump “is telling us, he is going to go back on what he’s saying” during an interview broadcast on Friday’s “Hannity” on the Fox News Channel.

In the second part of an interview with David Brody of CBN, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he thinks the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court case that ushered in an era of 48 million abortions was “wrongly decided.” Trump said he would appoint “very good judges” who would ultimately “change it” but he opposed roe without specifically saying it should be overturned. “It’s been very strongly decided but it can be changed,” Trump told Brody. “Things are put there and they’re passed but they can be unpassed with time but it’s going to take time because you have a...

Donald Trump has "flatly stated" (as some have said) that he is Pro Life. Donald Trump has also come out in support of Planned Parenthood (just not for aborition) stating they do wonderful things. http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/02/14/trump-planned-parenthood-does-do-wonderful-things-but-not-as-it-relates-to-abortion/ I need not remind my fellow Freepers that Planned Parenthood's bread and butter is taking tax-payer money, dismembering babies, and selling those babies as parts. To be fair to Donald he did go on record as saying Planned Parenthood defunded. This was back when Ted Cruz was fighting in the senate to defund the institution and Mitch, Boehner and company caved in again. Trump has...

Let me be clear--I am pro-life. I support that position with exceptions allowed for rape, incest or the life of the mother being at risk. I did not always hold this position, but I had a significant personal experience that brought the precious gift of life into perspective for me. My story is well documented, so I will not retell it here. However, what I will do with the remaining space is express my feelings about life, and the culture of life, as we approach the 43nd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade. I build things. There is a process...

That was one of the most amazing parts of the CBS Debate and Cruz at his finest. In a feisty exchange related to core principles, Cruz pointed out that Donald Trump had said the federal government should fund Planned Parenthood. Not only did Trump agree that the federal government should fund Planned Parenthood, but Trump praised all the good work Planned Parenthood does.Look for that to be turned into an ad rather quickly. Cruz seriously kicked the snot out of Donald Trump on stage. In fact, during the course of this, Cruz said he liked Trump and Trump thanked Cruz. Less...

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) challenged Donald Trump on his view of Planned Parenthood during the GOP debate in South Carolina. Cruz charged that Trump supports taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood. "Where did I support it?" Trump asked repeatedly. "You supported it when we were battling over defunding Planned Parenthood," Cruz said in return. Trump said Cruz's statements were "a lot of lies." "You said, 'Planned Parenthood does wonderful things and we should not defund it,'" Cruz pointed out. "It does do wonderful things but not as it relates to abortion," Trump asserted. "Excuse me. Excuse me, there are wonderful things...

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement on Pope Francis’ speech to Congress: “It was an honor to have Pope Francis address Congress. It was a powerful call for all of us to set aside pettiness and partisan divides and come together with shared values to solve the very real challenges facing this country, and I hope that is a message that is heard on both sides of the aisle. Presidential contender Bobby Jindal will deliver the keynote address Thursday at the National Right to Life Convention in New Orleans. According to a press release containing some of Jindal’s prepared remarks, the Republican governor of Louisiana – which has been named as the most pro-life state in the nation – will blast the Republican Party “smart guys” for failing to adhere to a commitment to pro-life policies, portraying the pro-life base, instead, as a “distraction.” “The Republican smart guys in Washington see cultural issues such as protecting life as a side issue and a distraction,” Jindal plans to say. “They...

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, released the following statement in support of the 2015 March for Life: Today thousands of students, families, and church communities have traveled to Washington to march for life and lift up our nation in prayer. “Forty-two years ago, Roe v. Wade overturned a Texas law and in one sweeping decision legalized abortion on demand across our nation. We are filled with grief for the nearly 57 million souls who will never have a chance to become the next teachers, artists, entrepreneurs, and heroes. “This anniversary marks a shadow in our nation’s history,...

It’s Election Day on Tuesday. (Not a Calvinist holiday. People are voting in booths…) A lot of pro-life advocates are fed up with politics, especially in a state like California where it seems like the pro-life vote doesn’t matter. I have a lot of empathy with people who feel apathetic about the entire political process, but I want to offer a few reasons to stay involved. voteprolife26I spoke at a pro-life conference in Southern California recently put on by California Pro-Life Council, and Bryan Johnston asked me to spend the last part of my speech encouraging the attendees to stay...

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) rallied 400 North Carolina pastors Tuesday evening, explaining to them why he is pro-life—an issue that, given Paul’s libertarian leanings, could be a point of attack from other conservative candidates in his likely 2016 presidential campaign.
