A diocese of the Church of England is giving an unprecedented £250,000 towards a multi-faith building in which the largest amount of worship space will be reserved for Muslims. The Guildford diocese is one of the wealthiest in the UK. The Bishop of Guildford, the Right Rev Christopher Hill, today handed over the £250,000 cheque to Surrey University for the first multi-faith building of its kind in Britain. The £6.5 million building will contain separate worship spaces for the Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Sikh communities, along with a further shared space for Buddhists and Hindus. What’s more, Wal-Mart gives a large sum from its corporate coffers to liberal advocacy groups, the Capital Research Center concluded in an August 2006 review of IRS records. The study by researcher David Hogberg, now a senior analyst at the National Center for Public Policy Research, found that of the $150 million in donations given by Wal-Mart in 2004, only $2,530 went to politically right-of-center organizations while 289 times as much went to left-of-center think tanks, a total of $732,350.

INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. There's outrage in northern Minnesota after firefighters allowed a man's mobile home to burn. Carl Berg had failed to pay the 25-dollar annual fee required for fire protection for homes outside International Falls city limits. Berg says he couldn't afford the fee or fire insurance. He says he lost everything in last month's fire. The Fire Department poured enough water to put the fire out temporarily and make sure everyone was safe. But when the blaze rekindled later, firefighters let the flames destroy what was left. Fire Chief Jerry Jensen says he doesn't want to see that...

"The NYSE cut-off is a dramatic step that puts the individual companies that bankroll Jackson on the spot. It is a lot harder for the Verizons and PepsiCos to argue that there's nothing wrong with supporting Jackson's groups. We plan to intensify our campaign against these companies and several others."
