A new University of British Columbia study says that an overreliance on research subjects from the U.S. and other Western nations can produce false claims about human psychology and behavior because their psychological tendencies are highly unusual compared to the global population.According to the study, the majority of psychological research is conducted on subjects from Western nations, primarily university students. Between 2003 and 2007, 96 per cent of psychological samples came from countries with only 12 per cent of the world’s populations. The U.S. alone provided nearly 70 per cent of these subjects. However, the study finds significant psychological and behavioral...

If you insult your wife or husband repeatedly, you could soon find yourself in court if you live in France. The charge? Psychological violence. That's what the new offence will be called if a bill backed by the government is passed by parliament. Once considered a purely private domain, rows between married or cohabiting couples could now prompt intervention from the state. The French government wants to take the controversial step of introducing a new law banning "psychological violence" between married couples or partners living together. But there are questions about how such an offence could be proved.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Psychological barriers like uncertainty, mistrust and denial keep most Americans from acting to fight climate change, a task force of the American Psychological Association said on Wednesday. Policymakers, scientists and marketers should look at these factors to figure out what might prod people take action, the task force reported at the association's annual convention in Toronto.

The influence of culture and environment can have an effect on our visual perception. This theory was first explored by Robert Laws, a Scottish missionary working in Malawi, Africa, during the late 1800's. Take a look at the picture below. What you see will largely depend on where you live in the world. After you have examined the picture, scroll down for a more detailed explanation. So What Did You See? What is above the woman's head? When scientists showed a similar sketch to people from East Africa, nearly all the participants in the experiment said she was balancing a...

Washington DC, Sep. 26, 2006 (CNA) - The next great frontier in law and culture, stemming from the same-sex marriage debate, is the legal redefinition of parenthood, says a new report issued by U.S. and Canadian family and law think tanks. The Revolution in Parenthood: The Emerging Global Clash Between Adult Rights and Children's Needs explores how the rights-based same-sex marriage movement places adult rights over the rights and needs of children. The report also explores the status of parenthood in society and the ways in which natural parenthood — the biological mother-father model — is being legally challenged and...

The ultimate targets of the London bombings were not, of course, human beings. Rather, they were a set of governmental policies that the terrorists hoped to change by separating political leaders from the support of their shaken citizenry........Citizens afraid of future attacks, along with ignorant protestors and careless celebrities, do no good -- do, in fact, the work of terrorists for them -- when they divide the members of the most important Western alliance by displaying faintheartedness at a time when the West needs above all to maintain its unity

When a certain scandal concerning the Catholic Church came to light and it was exposed that some priests had been molesting children the main stream media (MSM) was quick to note that the actions commited weren't homosexual acts at all, but were, instead, just pedophilic acts. To state that the acts which some priests had committed - Homosexual Pedophilia, or Pederasty, weren't homosexual acts is a lie. Homosexual Pedophilia is homosexuality, since it involves same-sex acts, just that it is the illegal form of homosexuality/same-sex attraction. 1.)When two males engage in a sexual act, then that act is homosexual. 2.)...

Who is scaring the "Lemmings for Kerry" crowd? Quite obviously, someone on the left is stirring up problems: rumors of Republican vote fraud, a divided nation, psychological problems among the Kerry followers, people wanting to move to Canada, etc., etc Qui bono? Who profits from the nation becoming divided? What uncaring group would cause harm among the less stable in society this way? When one stops to consider that whatever group starting these problems has both a grass roots and media following, it tends to narrow things down some. Nonetheless, I must admit that the Lemmings for Kerry are great...

Look Inside Kerry's Mind and You Find a "False Personality" Written by Joan Swirsky Wednesday, October 20, 2004 There's a term to explain why the clearly haughty and self-important John Kerry repeatedly calls George Bush "arrogant." In psychology, it’s called projection: attributing to others what, in fact, perfectly describes the person hurling the insult. Similarly, there’s a term to explain why Kerry, a lifelong pacifist after his four-month foray in Vietnam, is now trying to convince the public that he would fight the war against terrorism more effectively than President Bush. It’s called self-delusion. Another term explains why Kerry has...

NBC News has obtained a copy of a message from the al-Qaida terrorist network to Muslims in Iraq, a message that is, in effect, a military playbook on how to defeat Americans. “These documents appear to be authentic,” Francona said. “They believe that if they can survive the air assault they can trap the Americans into a bloody battle and make them lose their will so they’ll quit,” he said.

Cannabis poses a greater threat to health than tobacco, lung experts have warned. The warning comes on the day that Home Secretary David Blunkett is due to make a Commons statement about the future of government drug policy. Many young people are simply not aware that smoking cannabis may put them at increased risk of respiratory cancers and infections . Dame Helena Shovelton: The Home Affairs Select Committee has recommended that cannabis is downgraded from a class B drug to class C. This would mean that possession would lead to a caution, rather than arrest. The British Lung Foundation is...
