WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday gave police officers significant protection from lawsuits by suspects who lead them on car chases. The justices ruled 8-1 against Georgia teenager Victor Harris, who was left a quadriplegic after a police vehicle rammed his car off the road in 2001. A loaded smuggling vehicle collided with a large pickup Thursday morning, sending 13 suspected illegal aliens to the hospital. (Columbia) May 6, 2003 - The traffic stop happened shortly before noon in the 1500 block of Assembly Street. Officer J.L. Vanhouten caught up with a vehicle he says raced through two red lights at Calhoun and Assembly and Assembly and Blanding. The officer says the driver, Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauer , had been traveling at speeds up to 60 miles an hour in a 35 mile an hour zone.
