CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wisc. (WEAU) --The conceal carry law has been in effect for just 4.5 months but already a state advocacy group is saying the law needs to be altered. The Milwaukee based group Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort or WAVE says it wants access to the list of all conceal carry permit holders. The Wisconsin Department of Justice says the law prohibits the state from divulging the identity of any concealed carry license holder unless it's necessary in a prosecution. Sine November 1st, the DOJ has granted more than 83,000 conceal carry permits. It’s denied about two percent of all applications...

Just as thousands of Wisconsin residents are starting to use their new permits to carry concealed weapons, a Milwaukee lawmaker has proposed making gas stations off limits. Assembly Bill 406's sponsor, Rep. Josh Zepnick, (D-Milwaukee), said many station owners, employees and customers are among his constituents and have suffered ongoing violent crime at and around the businesses. "This is a serious pattern of crime that has escalated, presumably due to tough economic times and the 'ease' of getting in/out of a gas station for criminal activity," Zepnick said in an email. He noted that he has attended the funerals of...

What a bunch of liberals those Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature are. And now they're forcing Republican Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen to be, in his own words, "very liberal," too. We're talking, of course, about the GOP's anything-goes approach to allowing concealed guns in Wisconsin. You want to carry a hidden gun? No problem. Just send in for a permit and decide for yourself how much — if any — training you need. That's the liberal attitude of lawmakers such as Assembly Majority Leader Scott Suder, R-Abbotsford, and Sen. Glenn Grothman, R-West Bend. They balked at the more conservative...

Madison -- Those seeking permits to carry concealed weapons no longer need to show they had at least four hours of firearms training. Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen wrote rules implementing the state’s new weapons law that set four hours as the minimum length of firearms training courses. But on Monday, his fellow Republicans on the Legislature’s Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules suspended the requirement for minimum hours. The measure passed 6-2, with all Republicans for it and all Democrats against it. The effect likely will be that the state Department of Justice will accept any training certification...
