POLIWOOD: D Tonight at 7:30 on Showtime. Director Barry Levinson’s 90-minute “Poliwood” is billed as a film essay. That’s like calling the back of a cereal box a novel. Say what you will about Michael Moore, but at least he knows how to spin a story. Levinson (“Rain Man”) aims to explore the crash of politics, celebrity and media. He’s fascinated as to why performers are greeted with hostility when they become politically active. He trails famous members of the Creative Coalition, Hollywood’s nonprofit, nonpartisan lobbying group for arts funding, through the 2008 Democratic and Republican presidential conventions. The coalition’s...

SILVER'S BRAVERY NOT AN ACTMarch 18, 2009 I wish I could ask Ron Silver what he thinks of the AIG bonuses. He'd have some original take -- maybe propose re-opening the bonuses paid to Franklin Raines and Jamie Gorelick for their yeoman's work running Fannie Mae into the ground and then collecting bonuses of $90 million and $24.7 million, respectively. Or maybe he'd just make a joke. But I can't ask him anymore because Ron died of a rare esophageal cancer last Sunday. So now there is one less person in the world who never chooses his positions to feed...

Much like the crisis that was too good to ignore as we rushed to spend 4 year's worth of money in 14 days, the AIG bonus debacle was just too rich for Democrats to pass up. Here's a tip: Democrats believe that finding an easy target to prop up as enemy #1 makes them seem superior. Limbaugh yesterday, AIG today. Meanwhile, someone is escaping out the back door with all of your money, in sums that make the AIG bonuses seem like tip jar money!

Actor Ron Silver, who won a Tony Award as a take-no-prisoners Hollywood producer in David Mamet's "Speed-the-Plow" and did a political about-face from loyal Democrat to Republican activist after the Sept. 11 attacks, died Sunday at the age of 62. Actor and longtime political activist Ron Silver died this morning, succumbing to a long battle with cancer, friends of the liberal Democrat-turned-GOP stalwart told The Post. "Ron Silver died peacefully in his sleep with his family around him this morning," said Robin Bronk, executive director of the Creative Coalition, which Silver helped create. "He had been fighting esophageal cancer for two years and his family is making arrangements for a private service." Friends of Silver first told Post columnist Cindy Adams of the native New Yorker's death. The steely-eyed, blunt-talking Silver, 62, enjoyed a long career on the stage, TV...

Often when I walked onto the set of the West Wing some of my colleagues would greet me with a chanting of “Ron, Ron, the neo-con.” It was all done in fun but it had an edge. Since speaking in support of George Bush at the 2004 Republican convention I’ve become increasingly disadmired by members of my profession as well as many others. The presidential electoral cycle is upon us. That means conventions. Conventions have platforms. I propose a platform that will make the world like us again. Just like they always did.It may take 12 steps to get clean and sober, but only 6 to make the world realize just how super the U.S. can be.1. We can start by helping the Arabs retake Andalusia. Having conquered it once, it belongs to them forever. This goes for most of the Balkans as well as Austria up to the gates of Vienna. All infidels should convert to Islam. POLITICIAN turned actor turned politician Fred Thompson may have a Hollywood strategy when it comes to his presidential run (after all, he did announce his candidacy this week on the Jay Leno show), but he'll have a hard time getting a Hollywood audience. For starters, the entertainment industry Democrats are much too busy shuttling between Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton fundraisers to even think about helping out a fellow actor, let alone a conservative Republican one. And the Hollywood Republicans -- what few there are -- already have yard signs out for the far more moderate Rudolph W. Giuliani....

He said that Kerry always says he would do a better job creating and leading an international alliance to confront threats like Saddam. But in 1991 when Saddam's troops were in Kuwait, President Bush's father formed a coaliton that included France, Germany, and a final UN Security Council resolution endorsing the use of force. "There is no terrorist threat." Those are the words of uber-liberal filmmaker and author Michael Moore, whose controversial film "Fahrenheit 9/11," which essentially blamed President Bush for the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, has sparked a number of counter-films. One of them, "Fahrenhype 9/11," by Alan Peterson, features interviews with a number of today's most influential decision-makers, analysts and pundits. Narrated by actor Ron Silver — an admitted two-time Bill Clinton supporter who is highly critical of Moore — the film dissects Moore's work point by point, even featuring a number of people who appeared in the liberal icon's original...

New York, N.Y. — Let me lead off the way the Republican convention led off: with former New York mayor Ed Koch (who introduced the current mayor, Michael Bloomberg). In the 1980s, Bob Novak called Koch "the most interesting politician in America." I think I agreed with that. Koch has, if anything, grown more interesting. Unlike our coverage of the Democratic Convention, we will not be giving grades or commenting on every speaker. The reason? Most of the folks up on the dais are normal and not spitting angry, unlike the freak show held yesterday in the streets or last month in Boston. That makes it a bit harder to "grade". Ron Silver...WOW. I never thought I would be impressed by this man and he blew me away tonight with his passion for W. I just wish the crowd had the same feelings back as well as some of the other stuffed shirt Republicans out there. I know he is a lib and will probably go back to being so after this election but for now...the guy deserves some applause from us. Good solid speech and motivating. Should have had him on a bit later in the evening imo. To me the crowd just seems so out of it. Too much...

After listening to Ron Silver speak again on how Bush is a radical liberal who really is espousing many of the beliefs that many of the hollyweird crowd now seem to hate, I think he should give a speech at the GOP convention, just on the war on terror and Iraq. He is very eloquent and makes a very strong argument I think that would speak towards not only the undecideds but some of the liberals that do believe in a strong defense and pro-active pre-emption. What say you guys?

    The O'Reilly Factor | 7-13-04
Did anyone just see Ron Silver on O'Reilly? He was not only condemning the Radio City Hate Fest, but he was lavishing praise on the President. O'Reilly told him that his career in Hollywood was over. Then Silver started taking pot-shots at the Hollywood mentality. He called the President, I believe, a visionary, and listed him amongst the great Presidents. His honesty, coming from Hollywood, was quite refreshing. Thank you, Mr. Silver!
  • Actors Grammer, Priestley and Duvall Denounce Anti-War Celebs

At Saturday's White House Correspondents Association dinner, actors Kelsey Grammer, Jason Priestley, Robert Duvall and Ron Silver all told CNSNews.com reporter Marc Morano how they disagreed with Michael Moore's anti-Bush rant at the Academy Awards and wish their fellow celebrities would refrain from making comments about politics. Priestley, Morano relayed, “lamented the excessive coverage of anti-war celebrities by what he termed the 'liberal media.'” And, Morano learned, “CNN's Bob Franken did not like Fox News's use of the phrase 'we' when covering the U.S. armed forces during the war.” An excerpt from Morano's April 28 story about what the actors...
