I was watching the Weather Channel this morning and just like clockwork they pull SAD off the seasonal reporting shelf. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/seasonal-affective-disorder/symptoms-causes/syc-20364651 I am a 60 something and have never experienced this. I've taken long airline trips and have experienced jet lag on occasion, but it does not last for more than a day or so. Anybody on FR have this disorder?

Eating an egg every day in winter can help keep your vitamin D levels up, new research has found. As many as one in three Australian adults may have vitamin D deficiency. It can lead to fatigue, aches, muscle weakness, mood changes and an increased risk of contracting respiratory infections. "Vitamin D deficiency can have a negative impact on bone health as the key function of vitamin D is to promote calcium absorption," says research lead, Professor Robin Daly. "Vitamin D deficiency may also increase the risk of other non-skeletal diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, depression and Alzheimer's...

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job. Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies. Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and hired two...

Disorders of the immune system are on the rise everywhere thanks to the global popularity of the so-called Western diet. Autoimmune diseases including type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis have spiked in recent decades, according to scientists James Lee and Carola Vineusa at London’s Francis Crick Institute. Lee and Vineusa have devoted their study to investigating the cause of such illness, which they believe can be blamed on the recent pervasiveness of fast foods, which “lack certain important ingredients.” “Numbers of autoimmune cases began to increase about 40 years ago in the West,” Lee...

Very sad how the birth of our Savior is presented commercially and on television. I see no 'Jesus in the Manger' pictures anywhere. Just references to Santa Claus, buying gifts and parties. What happened to singing carols? Like this: https://www.bing.com/search?q=home+free+o%27+holy+night&FORM=QSRE7

This morning I saw a dog in my neighborhood barking. The trash truck had pulled up. A young worker stepped down from the truck with several dog treats in his hand. He tossed the treats onto the pavement inside the nearby yard, and the dog immediately stopped barking and started gobbling up the treats. By the time the dog finished snacking, the guy and the trash truck were gone. They have this thing down to a science! The incident brought to mind a sadly, near-universal truth–a “dog” will stop barking for a treat.” This simple principle explains how we’ve ended...

A year into the pandemic, a lot has changed. And we're reminded of that every time we go outside (if we go outside). Masks have joined the traditional don't-leave-home-without-them trifecta of keys, wallets and phones - and they are here to stay. There are folks who hate them, who can't breathe through them, or who think they're a sign of political oppression. But for others, the widespread use of masks has made the past year one of liberation. With a mask, you can sing in the grocery store, talk to yourself on a walk, grimace in the gym, leave the...

Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) on Friday told MSNBC’s “Live” that it was “sad” the Republican Party embraced “white supremacists and conspiracy theorists.” On impeachment, Hirono said, “The conviction for inciting insurrection, that’s first and foremost on my mind. Let’s do that first. We have a bunch of Republicans who are not willing to hold this president accountable. We have a Republican Party embracing White supremacists and conspiracy theory believers. That’s the party. So first and foremost, we need to get on with the impeachment trial. unless the president comes one evidence that says he’s totally innocent of everything, which I...

This morning, I realized that everything is about to change. No matter how I vote, no matter what I say, something contrary to my belief has invaded our nation, and our lives are never going to be the same. I have been confused by the hostility of family and friends. I look at people I have known all my life— so hate-filled that they agree with opinions they would never express as their own. I think that I may well have entered the Twilight Zone. You can't justify this insanity. We have become a nation that has lost its collective...

It is with deep sadness that I report that our friend Bender2, Danny Clay Lee, has passed through the vale to the other side. “Danny Lee peacefully passed away early this morning. I’ve read him many of your Facebook messages the last couple months. They brought him a little smile. - from Carey Canada” As many of you know, for me this is a real gut punch as Danny was a great friend who made us all laugh often. I met Danny once for lunch when I was on travel to Ft. Hood, TX. RIP Danny. You will be missed.

When Joe Biden made his first trip to Florida in September as the democratic presidential nominee, he made a stop in Miami. One of the high profile names by his social-distanced side was Ricky Martin. “I’ve been supporting Biden forever,” the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” hitmaker says on an upcoming episode of the Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket.” “I think he is the only option we have and he is great and he has been in politics all his life. This is the moment. We all need to get together and be loud about the course of this...

There is no published evidence to demonstrate that normal environmental (including electronic) exposure to blue light damages eyesight. However it is acknowledged that eye strain can occur from staring at electronics, which can cause fatigue and headaches. Regular breaks from staring at screens (large or small) is recommended to reduce eye strain. There is some evidence that blue light from electronics can disrupt circadian rhythms, however, by suppressing the production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates our sleep. This has led electronic manufacturers to offer “night light” settings that reduce the amount of blue light displayed and give your screen’s...
