<p>PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia &#8212; Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad yesterday told a summit of Islamic leaders that "Jews rule the world by proxy" and the world's 1.3 billion Muslims should unite, using nonviolent means for a "final victory."</p> <p>His speech at the Organization of the Islamic Conference summit, which he was hosting, drew criticism from the Bush administration and from Jewish leaders, who warned that the prime minister, despite his rhetorical prescription for "nonviolent means," could spark new Islamic violence against Jews.</p>

City firefighters battled both a fire and what was described as an out-of-control crowd at a house fire late Saturday night. Firefighters were called at about 11:15 p.m. to the Joe Hall residence at 514 Walker St. Interim city Fire Chief Sheila Butterbaugh said a crowd of 25 to 30 was already on the scene when firefighters arrived and added that the group of people doubled within minutes. US Marines moved into the southern Iraqi town of Shatrah today to recover the body of a dead comrade which had been hanged in the town square, officers said. Hundreds of troops were dispatched on the operation after intelligence reports indicated the body of a dead American, who was killed in a firefight last week, had been paraded through the streets and hanged in public.
