This post is intended purely as a service to veterans, rather than as a commentary. There will be a $250 stimulus payment made to all VA service-connected veterans beginning in June, 2009. According to the VA representative, ALL veterans receiving disability compensation - regardless of their rating (although I'm not certain if this applies to 0% ratings) will be eligible for this automatic payment. Veterans receiving disability benefits do not need to file a tax return to receive the payment, as they had to in order to qualify for the $300 stimulus payment last year. This years' payment will be...

This is so like Barack Obama. The man who is responsible for piling on more debt than every president from George Washington to George W. Bush - COMBINED - while simultaneously preaching "fiscal responsibility" can pretty much twist anything into anything. So no one should be very surprised that Obama would tout his championing of Veterans' issues even as he moves behind the scenes to commit the mother of all backstabbings. As CNN reported: WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed Tuesday that the Obama administration is considering a controversial plan to make veterans pay for treatment of...

The leader of the nation’s largest veterans organization says he is “deeply disappointed and concerned” after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. http://www.thedailychange.com/obama-intends-to-move-forward-with-plan-to-shortchange-our-veterans/

Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki recently confirmed that the Obama administration is considering a proposal to bill veterans’ private health insurance for treatment of service-connected conditions. The VA currently bills veterans’ private insurance for treatment of non-service connected conditions and this proposal would extend that practice to service-connected conditions. This proposed policy is abominable and demonstrates a fundamental lack of understanding of the price our men and women in uniform have already paid by the time they become veterans in need of healthcare. It is undeniably the VA’s moral and ethical obligation to pay for treatment of veterans’ service related...

Home Resources News Travel Shop Money Careers Education Join the Military Community War Veterans Overloading VA Thousands of U.S. troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with physical injuries and mental health problems are encountering an overburdened benefits system, and officials and veterans groups worry that the challenge could grow as the nation remains at war. The disability benefits and health care systems that provide services for about 5 million American veterans have been overloaded for decades, with a current backlog of more than 300,000 claims. And as of Aug. 1, nearly 150,000 National Guard and reservist veterans became eligible...
