King Charles of the United Kingdom made the decision to be known as Charles III, and I hope he remembers that Charles I was beheaded in 1649, the only British sovereign to be executed. Charles I was a tyrant who believed in “the divine right of kings,” meaning to oppose him was to oppose God. The English Parliament did not see it that way, and a bloody civil war began ending with the beheading of Charles. Charles III will not suffer such a demeaning and disastrous fate, but his reign will be a debacle for Britain.
