NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – In the heart of a Nashville area populated with immigrant families, there is a prominent message for Donald Trump on the eve of his weekend presidential campaign visit to Music City. Under the sign for the Ozment Law offices at 1214 Murfreesboro Pike, the message reads “Donald Trump, make Nashville great again. Please leave soon.” It’s a play on the Trump campaign theme of “Make America Great Again!” The sign has already gotten 70 thousand views on Facebook according to Elliott Ozment, who owns the immigration law office bearing his name. He called it a “collaborative...

Via the Examiner, I’d do what they say. In our alarming new culture of rage against microaggressions, doing otherwise might get you shot.Rather than make brutish assumptions that someone who looks like a boy is a boy and someone who looks like a girl is a girl, the campus diversity office recommends starting the semester by asking everyone to provide their names “and pronouns.” Or better yet, why not just use new pronouns that are gender-neutral? It’ll spare you an ephemeral awkward moment when you happen to encounter someone from the tiny fraction of the tiny fraction of the...

Turkey's geo-political maneuvers may urge reconsideration of its NATO membership. While the threat from Daesh grows, Ankara is more focused on the continuing fight with the Kurds. The Erdoğan government is undermining the core values of what NATO stands for, and its anti-Kurdish policy spells problems for its role in the region. NATO has to make a statement and also work behind the scenes to engage Erdoğan to prioritize the war against Daesh. Under the pretext of an anti-Daesh (ISIS) campaign, Turkey's government since late July 2015 is harshly repressing the Kurds, playing the ‘anti-terrorism' card towards NATO. But the...

School leaders in Dickson County decided, after a summer of controversy surrounding the confederate flag, the wise thing to do would be to ban all flags and banners. Some students are angry as they feel their patriotism is being compromised. School leaders said there is a right and wrong way to show American pride: "It's not an unpatriotic act by any means because we have a number of ways in which students do learn how to be patriotic and express American pride." -snip Students said they were told they would get kicked out if they bring an American flag onto...

  • As Hillary implodes, the Democrats have no real Plan B

    08/22/2015 1:26:48 PM PDT · by bryan999 · 84 replies
The summer has not been kind to Hillary Clinton. The drip-drip-drip of revelations about her possible misuse and mishandling of classified information threatens to become a deluge in the fall. They have taken a serious toll on her reputation — and even more notably, her treatment by liberal media figures who surely would rather she be elected even if the Risen Christ were to be the Republican nominee. Democrats are worried — so worried five donors who raised millions for President Obama as well as Obama’s chief Florida strategist have both sworn off Hillary and joined an effort to draft...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - State legislators said Wednesday they want to give the Health Department more authority to track how fetal tissue is disposed of after abortions. Sen. Mike Bell, R-Riceville, who presided over a joint hearing of the Government Operations Committee, said the Health Department is making required inspections of abortion clinics but there could still be illegal tissue sales going on without the inspectors' knowledge. Bell said lawmakers want to know more about how Tennessee regulates abortion after seeing hidden-camera videos that raised the question of whether Planned Parenthood officials in other states were profiting from the sale...

HOUSTON, Texas – Today, former three-term State Representative and U.S. Senate candidate Joe Carr endorsed U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz for President. Carr, a conservative stalwart in the Tennessee state legislature for six years, said Cruz’s proven record of fighting for the issues that matter most to conservatives makes him the best qualified leader to restore American greatness.“Ted Cruz is not only willing to stand firm on principle every time, but has done so when it mattered most,” said Carr. “He has taken on the Establishment in both parties, even when it was unpopular and victory was far from certain. That’s...

Murfreesboro police have charged 22-year-old Brandon Richmond Bowling with first-degree murder in connection to the death of Heather Maples. Bowling, who is a senior at Middle Tennessee State University, was booked into the Rutherford County jail just before 3 a.m. Saturday. A spokesperson with the university confirmed Bowling's status to Channel 4. Bowling was registered to resume classes this fall. His arrest comes more than a week after Maples' body was found in her apartment on Brown Drive. She was not a student of MTSU. Police are still not saying how the 22-year-old woman died.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The second person charged in the shooting death of Susan McDonald has a criminal rap sheet dating back to 1997. Andre Bowen, 36, is charged with first-degree murder, in addition to Anthony Olivo, who was previously charged. McDonald was shot and killed on August 1 outside of a friend's home in the 8400 block of Bazemore Road in Cordova. In 2005, Bowen was convicted of voluntary manslaughter for a shooting. He was sentenced in 2008 and while in jail awaiting that sentencing, he was charged with simple assault for fighting with an inmate.

The people of Tennessee have spoken about their desire to see commonsense protections for women seeking an abortion. Amendment 1 was adopted by voters in November to restore to our State Legislature the ability to put into place commonsense protections for women seeking abortion. In April, the General Assembly acted accordingly by adopting legislation that I sponsored to hold abortion clinics to the same health and safety standards as all other out-patient surgical facilities if they perform over 50 per year. It was a very reasonable approach. The law was supposed to become effective on July 1. That did not...

Children will now have “Parent 1” and “Parent 2” instead of a mommy and a daddy, according to Tennessee’s Administrative Office of the Courts. By passing the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act with enough votes to overcome a veto, Congress ensured that it would have the opportunity to review and vote on the nuclear agreement with Iran. Now that the Obama administration has reached what it believes to be an acceptable agreement, it is Congress’s responsibility to determine whether this agreement will be in our national interest, will make the United States safer and will prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapons program. I do not believe that it will.

The biological parents of a girl found dead in foster care in Auburn are demanding answers about what happened to their daughter. The Department of Children and Families said 2-year-old Avalena Conway-Coxon died at the hospital after she was removed from her foster home on Pheasant Court in Auburn. The Worcester County DA said another girl around 2 years old who was removed from the home remains hospitalized in "very critical" condition. "I will never see her smile again," said a tearful Jessica Conway, Avalena's mother. "I will never be able to hold my daughter again and it's because of...

RED CLAY, Tenn. — For the first time since the Cherokee Removal in 1838, the three federally recognized Cherokee tribes will hold a joint council meeting at Red Clay State Historic Park. The gathering of the Cherokee Nation, Eastern Band of Cherokee and the United Keetoowah Band on Aug. 28-29 also marks the 177th anniversary of the first overland detachment that departed on the Trail of Tears, according to a park news release. Along with the council meeting, the event will feature an all-day Cherokee encampment with re-enactors and living history exhibits; Native American dancers and stickball games; arts and...

Dear Democrats: It’s too late to start over. As in, there’s no replacing Hillary Rodham Clinton as your party’s front-runner for the presidential nomination. Not with Vice President Biden — even if he runs. Not with former vice president Al Gore. (I mean, come on.) Not with your ideal rich-person-with-no-record-and-a-fresh-faced-appeal. This may come as a shock to some of you. After all, you argue, it’s only August! The Iowa caucuses won’t be until February! That’s, like, four political lifetimes. Sure. But modern presidential politics isn’t as simple as announcing that you’ve decided to run and watching yourself soar to the...
