Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., dismissed the suggestion of prominent columnists to introduce a bill of impeachment against President Bush for lack of border enforcement, saying his immigration reform bill will do what is necessary to stem the flow of illegal aliens into the U.S. This week, WND columnists Patrick Buchanan and Joseph Farah called for legislation to begin the impeachment process due to, as Buchanan wrote, Bush's "conscious refusal to uphold his oath and defend the states of the Union against 'invasion.'" Wrote Farah: "President Bush has had nearly five years in office to honor his oath of office...

The Oui Republican Print Friendly Format E-Mail this to a Friend By George Neumayr Published 9/3/2003 12:04:00 AM Arnold Schwarzenegger, not yet ready to play a Republican on television, planned to duck Wednesday's gubernatorial debate. Here we have the four-corners pampered celebrity offense. Schwarzenegger will only appear at one debate, a mid-September event that gives the candidates the questions in advance. Schwarzenegger can learn his lines for that one. Schwarzenegger must chuckle at the ease with which he has manipulated this race. He only had to toss a few bones toward Republicans to get them to jump up on his...

Peaking Tom A conservative tries to become California's next governor. Conservative Tom McClintock isn't worried about spoiling fellow Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger's bid for governor in California. "You could say the same thing about him," he says. "He's spoiling my chance to become governor." McClintock, a 47-year-old state senator from Ventura County, is the one candidate in the race who can honestly say he's surging. Last weekend's L.A. Times poll had him shooting up to 12 percent, doubling his popularity from a few weeks earlier. This mark put him behind frontrunner Cruz Bustamante (35 percent) and GOP heavyweight Schwarzenegger (22 percent),...

California's Corrupted Contracts At the height of California’s electricity purchases in March 2001, the Wall Street Journal quoted a trading floor manager for the Bonneville Power Administration. The expert was incredulous as he watched California traders bid on electricity, “at times offer(ing) to pay $50 to $100 per megawatt hour more than the available market price.” He said, “They agree to prices that make you wonder. You’d at least think they’d check to see what the prevailing price is before throwing out their offer.” At the same time, California officials were also committing consumers to long-term energy contracts at unprecedented...

CBS/AP) As state election officials unveiled a complicated system Monday for ranking the scores of candidates expected on California's recall ballot, some opponents pressed movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger to make his policy positions known. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times reports, more Democrats adopted the strategy of denouncing the recall on one hand, and campaigning for Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante — the leading Democrat in the race to replace Gov. Gray Davis — on the other. For his part, Davis slammed the recall election as an insult to voters. Visiting New York City, Schwarzenegger refused to take questions, fueling criticism that...

Aug. 13 (Bloomberg) --Arnold Schwarzenegger, the actor who is running for governor of California, said billionaire investor Warren Buffett will be the financial and economic adviser to his political campaign, the campaign said in a statement. Buffett, the world's second-richest man, has built a fortune buy buying companies through his company, Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Debbie Bosanek, Buffett's assistant, didn't immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

Arnold is no RonaldCal Thomas (archive) August 11, 2003 | Print | Send Ronald Reagan was an actor who became governor of California, so why not Arnold Schwarzenegger? Or so the argument goes. Why not actor Gary Coleman, then, or any of the other candidates for whom inexperience, not to mention cluelessness about what's needed to repair the damage done to the state's economy, seems to be their main qualification?President George Bush has endorsed Schwarzenegger, saying he would make a good governor. Based on what? The president couldn't possibly know what Schwarzenegger stands for, because no one else seems to...

Recalling California OrthopoxyI was recently reading some commentary the California Gubernatorial Recall Election, and came across this phrase: “a pox on the purists.” I thought a moment, and asked myself: which ones? The conservative purists, or the moderate purists? The principle purists, or the pragmatism purists? The grass roots purists, or the RNC purists? There is a deep disingenuousness among some Republicans and Freepers on these matters. Their a priori position is that their world view represents "realism," therefore any other view is invalid. They argue from presumption and castigate those who differ, while failing to understand they are as...

SAN DIEGO -- According to an exclusive 10News/Survey USA poll, if the election were held today, Gov. Gray Davis would be recalled and Arnold Schwarzenegger would be elected governor. Of 493 people statewide who say they are "certain" to vote, two-thirds say they will vote to recall Davis from office. And in the second question on the ballot, 51 percent say they will vote for Schwarzenegger, the actor turned candidate.

<p>The race is on for governor of the Golden State. New polls show that 64 percent of Californians are prepared to recall Gov. Gray Davis, setting up the vote for his replacement. Last week, former President Bill Clinton — who, of course, almost lost his job when he was impeached — offered Mr. Davis advice on how to keep his own job, and the governor is expecting the Clintons to campaign for him. We are not convinced the former first couple will squander any political capital to embrace this dead man walking, and it probably wouldn't matter even if they did. To put it mildly, Mr. Clinton has never had the Midas touch when it comes to helping other Democrats get elected. That, however, does not mean fellow Democrats aren't coming out shooting.</p>

<p>August 12, 2003 -- LOS ANGELES - Two new polls yesterday showed Arnold Schwarzenegger winning the California gubernatorial race by a landslide, as embattled Gov. Gray Davis called the recall an "insult."</p>
<p>In a poll released by KABC-TV in L.A. last night, 66 percent who said they were "certain to vote" in the historic Oct. 7 California recall backed the removal of Davis, a Democrat, while 32 percent opposed it. Of the replacement candidates, Schwarzenegger beat Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, the ballot's only major Democrat, by 51 percent to 17 percent, according to the phone poll taken on the weekend.</p>

<p>BURBANK, Calif. (AP) - State Sen. Tom McClintock's candidacy for governor has been embraced by a leading conservative group.</p>

You've probably seen the ad on TV -- paid for by businessman/Democrat Steve Westly, who's running for state controller -- that portrays rival Republican state Sen. Tom McClintock as a tool of HMOs and other special interests. Don't believe it. Tom McClintock is nobody's handmaiden. In fact, there are Republican suits who, if they were candid, might admit that they'd prefer to see no Republican win statewide office than see McClintock elected controller. They don't want someone so independent and so clearly his own man in the party's top spot. McClintock led the charge against state Insurance Commissioner Chuck...

California Republican Assembly gives overwhelming support to Senator McClintock over last year's pick Burbank — Senator Tom McClintock on Sunday received the endorsement of the California Republican Assembly (CRA) for his candidacy for governor in the October 7 recall election. PRINCETON, NJ -- California voters seem poised to dump their current governor more than three years before his term expires and replace him with a popular Hollywood actor with virtually no political experience. If the election were held today, a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll shows that the recall drive would draw the support of close to two-thirds of California's registered voters (only a majority is needed). Among a list of the more prominent people running to replace the incumbent Governor Gray Davis, Arnold Schwarzenegger draws the most support, with the current lieutenant governor a distant second place. The recall election is scheduled...

Bustamante Must Not WinDemocrat Strategy The recall candidates are all filed and set. The democrats have held solidarity as much as possible with Cruz Bustamante, the incumbent Lt. Governor as their only candidate. They have decided on their campaign: Recall No, Cruz yes. Their strategy is to urge a no vote on the recall combined with a vote for Bustamante for Governor in the event Davis is recalled. As Lt. Governor, the dems have determined that he “has dibs” on the Governorship, as Frank del Olmo put it in an op-ed piece in the LA Times. The dems came to...

<p>DON'T EXPECT Arnold Schwarzenegger to stroll into California's governor's mansion.</p>

Up until this weekend, Bill and Hillary Clinton were pulling out all the stops to save failed California Gov. Gray Davis from political oblivion and preserve the mega-state's 55 Electoral College votes for Democrats in next year's presidential election. But it looks like the daunting candidacy of action star Arnold Schwarzenegger may prompt the former first couple to terminate their overt support for Davis. "I think that there's a political calculation going on now," reported MSNBC's Nora O'Donnell on Sunday. She noted that it may not be "worth it for [the Clintons] to be standing on the stage with...

Here me now and believe me later, my friends: all these conservative orgasms over Arnold Schwarzenegger are - like the "Gorbasms" liberals experienced over Mikhail Sergeevich Gorbachev - fake. I know that (R) next to Schwarzenegger's name excites the White House, but his own words prove he's not a conservative. I call this "The Hollywood Syndrome," and it happens every time some actor-type says anything even remotely conservative. I'm not trying to cold shower anybody here, but don't look to anyone in Hollywood to validate your political ideas. The American Prowler's George Neumayr detailed Arnold's politics in his article "Here's...

I want to say something about the accusations that California gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger is - how to put it? - too Austrian. But before I do, I need to make something clear about my attitude toward Austria: I don't like it. All my life I have endeavored to avoid Austrian products (not hard if you're not into beer and cookies). I've never visited the place and don't intend to. My aim isn't to singlehandedly destroy the Austrian tourist industry. It's just that hanging out with Adolf Hitler's countrymen isn't my idea of a relaxing vacation. I'd probably dislike Austria...

As nearly everyone in the free world (and even Ithaca, the City of Evil) has heard, box-office superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced he is running for California Governor in the wake of the pending recall election of incumbant Grey Davis.Early reports have Arnold, a Republican, holding a commanding lead in the polls. Given that California is the largest state in the nation, and given that Arnold is a Republican, you would think that every Republican on earth would be wildly ecstatic right now.Unfortunately, that isn't so. As is, sadly, too often the case, a vocal minority of the GOP is...

What is this I am hearing some (conservative, “hot talk”) radio talk show hosts saying, that Bill Simon and Tom McClintock are “unelectable” in California? Anyone who has seen any of my posts of late, know I am giving Arnold Schwarzenegger the benefit of the doubt and have all three Republicans as considerations. I also feel that Schwarzenegger, now that he is in the race, has the best “chance” of winning over Simon and McClintock. But, “best chance of winning” isn’t what I am hearing from some of these talk show hosts. I've heard it several times now, and Again,...

The newly emerging Arnold Democrat is as socially liberal to libertarian as the Reagan Democrat was socially conservative. He or she may well be an immigrant or the child of an immigrant. But one thing seems certain: The Arnold Democrat poses every bit as much of a threat to the California Democratic Party as the Reagan Democrat did decades ago.

It's too bad there's not an Academy Award for head fakes. As Arnold Schwarzenegger prepared to step onto the Tonight Show stage last week, Jay Leno asked him how he was going to make the expected announcement that he was not going to run for Governor of California. Schwarzenegger murmured, "I am bowing out." And that's what everyone was expecting to hear. In fact, top adviser George Gorton stood at the edge of the set, holding the official statement that began, "I am not running for Governor ..." When Gorton offered one last word of regret over the campaign that...

<p>Now that Saturday's 5 p.m. deadline has passed, Californians should revisit the isle of sanity.</p>
<p>While only about a fourth of the 500 people who had picked up filing papers actually turned them in, this ballot will still have more than a hundred candidates. Democrats ended up with only one prominent name on the ballot, improving their chances of holding the office against the four well-known Republicans.</p>

Ok, McClintock bots: I'm fed up with you torpedoing the chances for a Republican to be elected Governor of California. Don't you realize that you're screwing up supporting a long-shot like Tom McClintock??? Don't you realize you'd be handing this recall to the Dems in a silver platter??? These are my reasons why, if I lived in CA, I'd support Arnold: 1) The chances of a hardcore conservative Republican being elected governor of California are slim to none: Might as well wait for a Green Party governor in Utah. 2) You could accuse me of compromising, but it's better a...

While many celebrities prefer passive and extremely conservative investments, Schwarzenegger's 100-plus ventures — 19 of which are valued at more than $1 million — include individual stocks, managed stock accounts, private investment funds, venture funds, bonds, a number of direct stakes in operating businesses, and even a high-end mutual fund company overseen by Nobel laureates.

In a press conference held earlier today in downtown Los Angeles, Gollum officially announced his candidacy in the upcoming California Governor Recall Election. Gollum will be running for neither the Republican nor the Democratic party. He is the first recorded representative in any election for the ‘Precious Party’. Little is known about the Precious Party since its creation last spring. However this new party has quickly gained momentum and finds new party members by the hundreds. Gollum’s party support is seemingly enough as he was able to submit 5,472 signatures of California registered voters, while only 65 are required. Surprisingly,...

<p>The recall is about much more than Gov. Davis. It is an assault on the whole political class in California by an electorate in a very bad mood. Voters have concluded that the electoral process has become a private affair of incumbents, their campaign consultants and the various interest groups that fund these endeavors, and now they have a chance to do something about it.</p>

In a typically caustic and brilliant column 3 years ago, Ann Coulter accurately described New Jersey RINO Governor Christine Todd Whitman as a "half wit". This characterization was vindicated last year when the New Jersey Supreme Court, which included 5 LIBERAL judges appointed by Gov. Half-Witman set aside the election law and allowed Robert Torricelli to be substituted by Frank Lautenberg, thus handing the Senate seat to the Democrats. For those who are considering supporting Arnold for Governor of California, the lessons learned from the above episode should not be forgotten. A liberal Democrat running as with an R...

Clinton advising Gray Davis August 10, 2003BY JULIAN COMAN WASHINGTON--Faced with Arnold Schwarzenegger's bid for his job, California's beleaguered Gov. Gray Davis has turned to perhaps the only man in America who can save his skin. Former President Bill Clinton has taken a hands-on role in the Democratic governor's campaign to help him try to avoid being recalled by voters. Close aides of Davis said the two men met privately for more than an hour last week in Chicago and are in daily telephone contact. The former president apparently advised Davis to play the sober politician to Schwarzenegger's brash show...
