I've been looking at new (or slightly used) laptops. Many if not almost all have touchpads that do not also have any kind of associated buttons or a trackball. So, if I am working in a document and want to select a sentence or block of text to copy and paste, how is that readily accomplished? I've read reviews by owners of such in which they complain of no easy way to do such selections, which seems like an astonishing lack of functionality. The laptops I've been looking at are 14" or 15.6", so there is certainly lots of real...

The New York Times this week said HP the limited supply of TouchPad will be available by the end of Oct. at $99 for the 16GB SKU and $149 for the 32GB SKU. The Palo Alto, CA-based company said this week it will manufacture a limited quantity of TouchPad tablets in the fiscal fourth quarter of 2011, which ends Oct. 31, to meet demand. HP previously said it would end the manufacture of webOS devices in the fourth quarter. In...
  • Sorry, But HP's TouchPad Is No Threat To Apple's iPad (Still waiting for the iPad killer)

HP unveiled its iPad clone, the TouchPad today. While the TouchPad is not a complete disaster -- it looks pretty nice, and seems to have good software -- it is NOT a significant threat to Apple's iPad. We still expect Apple to dominate the tablet market for years to come. Why isn't HP a threat? * It's not better than the iPad -- especially the improved iPad 2 that is already in production. The hardware and software need to be MUCH BETTER than the iPad to stand out -- a "leapfrog" product -- and they're not. Sure, there is nifty...
