The massacre of Jewish children at Oztar HaTorah Jewish Day School in Toulouse presents us with an appalling encapsulation of the depraved nature of our times - although at first glance, the opposite seems to be the case. On the surface, the situation was cut and dry. A murderer drove up to a Jewish school and executed three children and a teacher. Led by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, all of France decried the massacre and announced its solidarity with the French Jewish community. World leaders condemned the crime. The killer died in a standoff with French security forces. Justice was...
  • French Shooting Suspect Was on U.S. No-Fly List

The gunman suspected in a string of shootings in southern France was on the U.S.'s no-fly list as a suspected terrorist, according to people familiar with the matter. Two people familiar with the case said Mohammed Merah was on the list because in 2010 he had been in custody in Afghanistan, then sent back to France. Counterterrorism officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which manages the U.S. no-fly list, also had collected information on Mr. Merah before the recent shootings in France, including the 2010 encounter, officials said.

Mohamed Merah, the 23-year-old man who confessed to killing three French soldiers and four people at a Jewish school, died from a gunshot wound to the head Thursday after police stormed his home in Toulouse following a 32-hour stand-off.   In a dramatic end to a 32-hour standoff, a masked French SWAT team slipped into the apartment of an Islamist extremist Thursday, sparking a firefight that ended with the suspect jumping out the window and being shot in the head. Mohamed Merah, 23, was wanted in the deaths of three French paratroopers, three Jewish schoolchildren and a rabbi - all killed...

For two days and nights now Ihave been unable to shake the image from my head: the black-clad man, identityconcealed by a motorcycle helmet, gun in hand, chases 8-year old Miriam Monsonegointo the courtyard of Toulouse’s Ozar Hatorah school, grabs her by the hair, puts the barrel of his .45 to her templeand fires. It jams. Calmly, still holding ontoMiriam’s hair, he switches guns to another, a 9 mm., puts the barrel to hertemple, fires so closely that her skin gets powder-burned.

Question: What enabled the slaughter of Jewish children and soldiers in the French city of Toulouse by a Muslim steeped in radical, victim-centric, warped Islamist ideology? Answer: People like EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton, an apologist for terrorist hate. She is the epitome of amoral, cowardly, politically correct, morally relativistic trash allowed by decadent, fearful Westerners to run amok at the top of their societies. This combination of a disconnected public and crazy political elite creates an atmosphere where lying bullies -- Islamo-fascist-leftists -- trample Western values, commit horrendous acts of ultra-violence, and shut down free speech. Meanwhile, people...

TOULOUSE, France – The suspect in an radical Islam-linked killing spree in southern France was killed after police raided his apartment to end a 32-hour standoff, the French interior minister said. Mohamed Merah, who holed up in an apartment in the southern city of Toulouse, was found in the apartment's bathroom and exchanged fire with police, the minister said. He apparently jumped from the window and continued firing until he hit the ground. "The killer came out of the bathroom, firing with extreme violence," Claude Gueant, the interior minister, said, adding that the RAID squad had "never seen an assault...

  • Did UN worker’s anti-Israel tweet provoke Mohammed Merah to murder?

Did Mohammed Merah murder Jewish children because little over week earlier, on March 12, UN worker Khulood Badawi posted a photo of a cloodied child on @KhuloodBadawi? Did it play a part in his thinking? (She has since taken it down, later writing: “Correction: I tweeted the photo believing it was from the last round of violence & it turned out to be from 2006.”)

Police hunting a gunman suspected of killing seven people in southern France are laying siege to a flat in Toulouse. The man, named as Mohammed Merah, 23, a Frenchman of Algerian origin, has said he belongs to al-Qaeda and acted to "avenge Palestinian children". Police are negotiating with the man, who is still said to be armed but says he may give himself up this afternoon. French Interior Minister Claude Gueant said the man had been tracked by French intelligence for "several years". The brother of the suspect has been arrested in another part of Toulouse, with several other relatives...

A gunman suspected of killing seven people in the name of al-Qaeda, including three children at a Jewish school, has been arrested by police after an hours-long siege in southwestern France. About 300 police, some in bullet-proof body armor, had earlier cordoned off an area surrounding a four-storey house in a leafy suburb of the city of Toulouse where the 24-year-old Muslim man, identified as Mohamed Merah, was holed up on the ground floor. Merah had been arrested for bomb making in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar in 2007 but escaped months later in a Taliban prison break, the...

Mohammed Merah, a 24-year-old Frenchman who is suspected for the shocking murders of three soldiers, three Jewish children and a rabbi, is expected to surrender later on Wednesday, according to French Interior Minister Claude Gueant. "The suspect told me - and I hope he told me the truth -- that he will surrender at 12 pm," Gueant said, as cited by CNN. "He claims to be a jihadist and says he belongs to al Qaeda. He wanted to avenge the Palestinian children and take revenge on the French army because of its foreign interventions," he clarified. The suspect has reportedly...

A gunman opened fire on a Jewish school in southern France Monday, killing four people -- the third shooting in the area in 10 days. The shooting in the city of Toulouse left a teacher and three children dead, including a 3-year-old, said local prosecutor Michel Valet. A fourth child was injured. The gunman arrived shortly after 8 a.m. and fled on a motor scooter after the shootings. He is believed to have used two different guns, interior ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet said. "It's a horrible tragedy," Brandet said on CNN affiliate BFM. It's the third shooting by a man...

A burning car was rammed into a synagogue door in southwest France as the interior minister convened Muslims, Jews and police in Paris to warn against contagion from the Gaza conflict. Damage to the synagogue in a Toulouse neighborhood was limited to a blackened door, and there were no injuries even though a rabbi was giving a course to adults inside, said an official of the regional prefecture, Anne-Gaelle Baudouin. Police called to the scene found remnants of a Molotov cocktail in the car and a car nearby with three unlighted Molotov cocktails, Baudouin said. It was not clear whether...

GIOVE A, the first Galileo satellite, departed from ESA’s test facility at the European Space Research and Technology Centre in The Netherlands on the morning of 29 November, bound for the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The spacecraft, packed in its transport container and accompanied by its support equipment, was taken by road from the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) to Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport, where it was loaded onto an Antonov transport plane. GIOVE-A was flown first to Moscow and, after customs formalities had been completed, made the second leg of its air journey to Baikonur, arriving in the...

So now Toulouse is burning. I was born there; yes I was, and it happened a month after Hitler invaded. Toulouse, far off in the south of France, was spared the Roundup, at least for a while, until the noose tightened. The Roundup of Paris is a whole other story that needs separate attention. There's no time to go into that now. But wait, we do have to talk about this, if only for a paragraph or two. Back in Paris, on July 16-17, 1942, the French police seized 12,884 Jewish men, women and children and sent them off to...

The allegations have inflamed dinner-table talk across France: a lurid tabloid tale of sex, murder, politics and corruption and, if the saga is to be believed, there could be a whole lot more to come. The ingredients are said to include cocaine-fuelled orgies with underage call girls, prostitutes who turned tricks with robed magistrates inside a courthouse, sado-masochistic sessions secretly filmed by a transvestite blackmailer, and a string of murders by a psychopathic strangler. Those who took part in the kinky sex, or helped to cover up the slayings, are supposed to have included local policemen, judges and public prosecutors,...
