In a development I’m sure will shock you, trusting SGN reader, Chicago State Sen. Donne Trotter worked out a plea bargain with local prosecutors that saw felony gun charges reduced to a misdemeanor. Trotter faced up to three years in prison for trying to board an airplane with a .25 cal. Beretta in his luggage back in December. What he got was a year of court supervision and 60 hours of community service, which he apparently will fulfill by delivering anti-gun lectures to school kids. Trotter’s explanation for having the gun in Chicago, which had an effective ban on handguns...

An Illinois state lawmaker who was a frontrunner to replace former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. says he's ending his candidacy because he doesn't want the felony gun charges he faces to detract from the district's important issues. Donne Trotter was arrested Dec. 5 when security screeners at O'Hare International Airport found an unloaded .25-caliber Beretta handgun in his bag. **SNIP** Trotter announced Saturday he will not seek the 2nd congressional district seat, explaining that solving the area's economic and other problems was too important to allow his legal "situation to detract from what needs to be front and center."

Well-armed activists want the rest of America defenselessThe loudest advocates of gun control are well protected. President Obama said he wants more laws restricting firearms ownership because, in his hometown of Chicago, “there’s an awful lot of violence, and they’re not using AK-47s, they’re using cheap handguns.” With his own armed Secret Service detail, the president doesn’t need to worry about crime. Illinois State Sen. Donne Trotter takes the hypocrisy up a notch. On Wednesday, Mr. Trotter was arrested on felony charges after attempting to board a plane at O'Hare International Airport with a loaded .25-caliber Beretta. The South Side...

The security company employing state Sen. Donne Trotter has been paid more than $350,000 as a subcontractor on a City of Chicago security deal and is represented by a politically powerful lobbying firm run by a onetime top aide to former Mayor Richard M. Daley. When Trotter was arrested Wednesday at O’Hare Airport for allegedly having a weapon in his belongings, he told police he left the pistol in a bag after working at AllPoints Security. --------------------------cut------------------------ Several people who work with Trotter in Springfield said privately they were not aware that he carried a weapon, nor that he held...

COOK COUNTY COURTHOUSE - State Sen. Donne Trotter was packing an illegal handgun in his carry-on when he got pinched at an O’Hare Airport checkpoint, prosecutors said at a Thursday bond hearing. Trotter’s bail was set at $25,000 on felony charges that he tried to board a plane with an unloaded .25-caliber Beretta. He also allegedly carried an ammunition clip loaded with bullets. Trotter, D-Chicago, who last week announced he would seek the congressional seat vacated by former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., appeared in court wearing the same brown suit he was arrested in Wednesday as he attempted to board...

BELLEVUE, WA – Today’s arrest of Illinois State Sen. Donne Trotter by authorities at O’Hare International Airport for having a gun in his carry-on bag is a revealing look at the hypocrisy of anti-gunners, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Trotter was arrested at a security checkpoint early this morning. A candidate for the 2nd Congressional District seat vacated recently by Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., Trotter had a .25-caliber Beretta semiautomatic pistol in his bag. The Chicago Tribune said Trotter told police he worked late last night as a...
