The first approach is one that really emerged in the late 1980's, gained strength through most of the 1990's, and stirred a storm into the sea of Christian theology. I'm referring to the belief that, if one is a true Christian and possesses superior faith in God, their life should be bereft of social and physical detriments like financial poverty, chronic illness, even suffering of any kind. This is quite vividly contrary to God's word.

Rome (AsiaNews) – Mgr John Gao Kexian, unofficial Bishop of Yantai died in the evening of January 24 2005 in a hospital in the city of Bingzhou (Shandong). He had been in prison for the previous five years. His body was cremated and buried the day following his death in the presence of police officers. No relative or faithful were allowed to attend the event. The Bishop died without any religious comforts and his body was not blessed. Pilgrim flock to 'divine potato' Pilgrims are flocking to a house in Bombay where they believe that Elephant headed Hindu Lord Ganesha has appeared in the shape of a potato. The potato is said to be shaped like the Lord Ganesha and people are offering money and gifts to seek the blessing of the "divine vegetable". The vegetable was grown in Uttar Pradesh and bought by Najmuddin Alibhai Jessani, a fruit and vegetable exporter. It was about to be eaten by the family, when Mr Jessani's sister-in-law noticed the resemblance to Lord Ganesha. The potato's fame spread after it was...
