Attending the School of God from R.C. Sproul Apr 09, 2016 Category: Articles We live in a culture that is a quick and dirty culture. We want to become mature Christians in five easy lessons. We want to become saints by fifteen minutes a day. We want to have flat stomachs and strong abs by three workouts a week. That may work over a given period of time for your abs, but it’s not going to work for your soul. Attending the school of God takes time and labor and energy and deeply committing oneself to prayer, to the study of...

An anti-abortion activist who made undercover videos at Planned Parenthood clinics said in a social media posting that California Department of Justice agents raided his home Tuesday. Agents seized all video footage from his apartment, along with his personal information, David Daleiden said in a Facebook post. Daleiden, the founder of a group called the Center for Medical Progress, said agents left behind documents that he contends implicate Planned Parenthood in illegal behavior related to the handling of fetal tissue.

Just before I sat down to write this article, the terrorist group known as ISIS claimed responsibility for another attack in the Middle East. In this latest incident, Muslim terrorists reportedly killed more than twelve people, injured more than twenty-five people, and took as many as fifty hostages. Sadly, we have grown accustomed to such horrendous news—so accustomed that we have almost come to expect such news every day. If we have not become desensitized to these sinful and shameful acts of terrorism, we feel a range of emotions, from anger to sadness, vengeance to helplessness, defensiveness to aggression. ISIS...

On social media you see a lot of people saying that this candidate or that candidate is “stealing delegates.” There is no such thing. First of all, it implies something illegal, or at best, nefarious. It is neither. Secondly, there is no way you can “steal” delegates. When people talk about stealing delegates they are displaying their ignorance about how the system works. Just as Donald Trump displayed his ignorance when he claimed that he should be the candidate because he had more votes than any other candidate, but not a majority. Reince Priebus had to call Trump into a...

2016 has been a busy year for the Newsboys and the first quarter is barely even over. The veteran Christian band appears in a pivotal scene in the new film God's Not Dead 2, which hits theaters Friday (April 1). Their latest album, Love Riot, bowed at No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums chart, No. 2 on the Top Christian Albums list and No. 14 on the all-genre 200. Not bad for a band that was launched in Australia three decades ago and has continually reinvented itself. "In many ways, I just feel we are getting started," drummer Duncan...

The song you are about to hear is from a Las Vegas Diamond Rio concert. They received an immediate resounding standing ovation, and continue to do so every time they perform. Sadly, it is considered "politically incorrect." Consequently, the song was not released to the public.

During a recent town hall forum, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was asked by host Chris Matthews if he thinks there should be “some form of punishment†in the event of a ban on abortion. Trump said, “For the woman? . . . Yeah.†He added that the punishment in question would “have to be determined.†The comment was quickly condemned by both those who support abortion and those who oppose the killing of the unborn. Within hours Trump released a statement reversing his position, saying, in part: If Congress were to pass legislation making abortion illegal and the federal...

....Trump is a "political phenomenon" who is effectively shaking up both the Republican and Democratic parties - and it's not necessarily a bad thing, according to the Rev. Franklin Graham. ...."Do you believe protesters are blocking the road to his rally to stop people from getting there today? There are those who passionately support him and others who are adamantly against him. He's a political phenomenon like our country hasn't seen before. I don't think America has ever had a presidential candidate opposed by both establishments, Republican and Democratic, as well as the sitting president."

The April issue of Tabletalk is out and we’ve made the digital edition free. Read it for free on iPad, select Android tablets, and Amazon’s Kindle Fire. You can also download the ePub or MOBI version free from the Ligonier.org store. The April issue of Tabletalk considers Islam. Since originating in Arabia during the seventh century, Islam has expanded around the globe. Some estimates identify as much as twenty-three percent of the world’s population as being Muslim. Christianity has a long history of encountering and engaging Islam, whether through evangelization, military crusades, or even living under Islamic rule. In the...

Listening to Ted Cruz's response to the terrorist attacks in Brussels raised a question: Is he a pitiful victim of hysteria, a calculated promoter of it or both? Major emergencies call for sober leadership and careful thought, but Cruz is intoxicated by his 150-proof ideology. It's hard to tell whom he hates more -- terrorists or Barack Obama. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan's United Nations ambassador, Jeane Kirkpatrick, charged that when unwelcome events occur, Democrats "always blame America first." Cruz has the same reflex. His immediate impulse on hearing of the Brussels bombings was to attack the president of...

Questions about relations between Muslims and Christians continue to receive widespread attention in the media and society at large. In particular, “Do Christians and Muslims worship the same God?” has become especially controversial among Christians in the United States. Responses have often been polarizing, with one side insisting the answer must be affirmative and the other vehemently denying this. But the question itself is highly ambiguous and conflates different issues in an unhelpful manner. Thus, rather than trying to answer directly whether Christians and Muslims worship the same God, it’s more helpful to consider similarities and differences in the beliefs...

Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist Da' Truth took to Twitter with a cryptic message revealing some lyrics to his new song "Religion," which features Christian apologist Dr. Ravi Zacharias, triggering a worldwide discussion. Da' Truth shared about the idea of truth, God and religion. He tweeted some of the lyrics to his new song from the upcoming album, It's Complicated, and thousands, even listeners from NGEN radio and Jam The Hype, shared concerns and questions on whether or not the artist was second-guessing his faith. It was later revealed with the release of his new video for "Religion" that Da' Truth wasn't...

The Inclination to the Truth Msgr. Charles Pope • March 14, 2016 • In a recent post (Is There a Way Back to Undeniable Reality and Universally Binding Norms?) I discussed how we today tend to “live in our heads” a lot more so than did the people living in biblical times and even those who lived up to and including the High Middle Ages and the Scholastic Period. Prior to that time, the “real world” was taken to be largely self-evident. But in the late 13th and early 14th centuries, a school of thought later called “nominalism” began...

A couple of years ago I visited Canada to record television interviews about my book Christian Endgame. Prior to the recording, some of the Christians in the green room told me to be cautious about saying that Christianity is the exclusively true religion. When I inquired why, I was told that it is considered intolerant in Canadian society to claim Christianity is the only way to God. The Christian program executives were concerned about receiving legal reprisals from the Canadian government for broadcasting “intolerant” religious statements. I don’t know exactly what Canada’s laws are concerning alleged statements of religious intolerance,...

That brings us to Tuesday's interview in which Schilling devoted about eight minutes (starting near the 28-minute mark) to talking about Clinton, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump and the various things that scare him for the future of America. The interview, though, was at its most provocative when Schilling railed on Clinton. "If she’s allowed to get to the general election before she’s in prison I’ll be stunned and upset,” Schilling said. “Because I think she’s shown her true colors all along the way and I’ll ask you this: Do you see her being anything even remotely different than what we’ve...

Wise Counsel for Cultural Warriors Msgr. Charles Pope * February 15, 2016 * truth word in mixed vintage metal type printing blocks over grunge woodThe following three nuggets of wisdom come from Ecclesiastes and are especially appropriate for those of us who engage and struggle with our troubled culture. They can help us to keep things in perspective.Do not in spirit become quickly discontented, for discontent lodges in the bosom of a fool (Eccl 7:9).We certainly do live in times that challenge our sense of well-being. There is much to lament in these times: broken families, confused sexuality, secularism,...

Nope this is not the Onion. Nor is it the cutting edge satire of "The People's Cube". It is, however, delicious irony. But, it's real and not so much fanciful. Apparently, the Pope has declared the Trump persona non grata in heaven. St Peter has been sent an email from St Peter's successor that one Donald J. Trump favors building a wall on the southern US Border. We have no info yet on St Peter's reply, except he did mention that the "pearly gates" are attached to something. However, we are fairly sure that Osama bin Laden clones have not...
