Some nice antiques on the table Image from bristolpost.co.uk  England promoted a national firearms amnesty/turn-in during 2017. In Bristol, 313 "guns" were turned in, along with a whopping 120 rounds of ammunition! That is one round of ammo for every 2.6 "guns". I put "guns" in quotes, because only 186 of the 313 items were actual firearms. Most of those had no ammunition for them.  Here is the breakdown. From bristolpost.co.uk: A breakdown of the guns handed in... Gun turn in events, known by the Orwellian term 'buyback' (you cannot buy back what you never owned), have become rare outside of those states which ban private sales. Connecticut requires that every gun sale be granted permission and be registered with the government. New Haven Connecticut is hosting a gun turn in event.  From nbcconnecticut.com: The New Haven Police Department gun buyback will be at 710 Sherman Parkway in New Haven, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. People turning in working guns will get gift cards for American Express, Stop & Shop, Target, Walmart, Kohl’s or Amazon...

    - The UK gun surrender that has been ongoing over the last two weeks has ended. A lot of airguns, imitations firearms, replicas and antiques have been turned in. A couple of AK47s made headlines. Here is a headline from Northumbria: AK-47 gun shock as assault rifle among huge haul of weapons handed in to Northumbria Police A closer look at the Northunbrian article reveals some interesting information. The AK-47 and two machineguns were all turned in together. They were deactivated collectors items, and were legally deactivated. But the requirements for deactivation have changed and become much more restrictive. From militaria-hisory.co.uk...

Crime involving guns is on the rise in England and Wales. There has been a 27 percent increase through June of 2017, compared to the previous year, according to the BBC. The response of the British police has been to declare a two week “gun surrender” that is a sort of amnesty to turn in illegally owned guns.People are assured that they will “not automatically be charged, but will be if they are later connected to a crime.”  It does not sound reassuring to me, but the British are known to be extremely law abiding and trusting of their...

Hartford Connecticut had a gun turn in event on Saturday, 28 October, 2017. They have been using the Orwellian term “buy back”. You cannot buy back something you never owned to begin with. Hartford has been holding these events every few months. Gun turn-in events have become scarce in most states as private purchasers turned the affairs into impromptu gun shows. They are hanging on in those states where private sales are banned. A sale is not private if the government requires the sale to be conducted through a government agent, and to be recorded.Second Amendment supporters have another...

On 28 October, 2017, for two hours, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., there was a gun turn in event in York, Pennsylvania. It did not attract many people. It has been reported that 36 guns were turned in.From ydr.com:“I have no use for it and I just wanted to get rid of it,” he said of the Ruger. Plus, he said, he has two grandchildren and figured turning in the gun was the best way to eliminate any chance they could access the pistol. That handgun was one of 36 guns York City Police collected over a two-hour...

Guns turned in at the Cleveland "buy back" in 2016. Cleveland is going against the trend on gun "buy backs". They are having one every year, whether they do any good or not. In 2016, they had one on the 4th of December. Very little notice was given. At least one Second Amendment support group, Ohioans for Concealed Carry, predicted a low turn out for the event. From cleveland.com: Jeff Garvas, founder of the group, said the short notice for the Sunday event may not motivate people to exchange their weapons for gift card incentives. The Ohioans for Concealed...

There will be a gun turn in event in Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday, 4 December,  2016.  While these events are commonly labeled with the propaganda term “buyback” the guns were never owned by the people attempting to buy them. Private sales of firearms in Ohio are legal, and Cleveland cannot override state law.  The location has changed from 2014. That year, the location was on Payne Avenue. This year it will be on Chester Avenue.  From patch.com: CLEVELAND, OH — Mayor Frank G. Jackson and Chief of Police Calvin D. Williams proudly announce that the 2016 City of Cleveland...

On  Saturday, 11 June 2016, the Wayne County Sheriff and anti-Second Amendment activists held a gun turn in event at the Mathis Community Center.  The turn in was hyped by numerous local news media, providing free publicity for the event.  But the actual coverage of the event was remarkably free of any mention of the numerous private buyers who competed with the “buy back” organizers for the firearms that were brought to the event. Photo Gallery of Detroit Gun Turn in Event with Private Buyers It may not have been hard to compete.  The gun turn in organizers only offered...

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office is attempting to organize a gun turn in event in Atlanta, Georgia.  They hope to raise $100,000 to fund the event.  Two years ago, $40,000 was raised for a turn in event that brought in about a thousand firearms.  That event had competition from private buyers, who got some good deals. There is a gofundme link for the event at the Sheriff Department website, but the link is not working. A correspondent says that the site raised $130 before it was closed.  At the Sheriff Department site, Sheriff Ted Jackson states his support for the...

Brockton Massachusetts held their first gun turn in or “buy back” in 22 years on 21 May, 2016. “Buy Back” is a propaganda term; the guns were never owned by the people who are buying them. The event was advertised as accepting guns anonymously, no questions asked. This seems to violate Massachusetts law. There may be an exemption for police.  Police will be present; it is unlikely that they would enforce the law against themselves, even if there is no exemption.  From wcvb.com: In exchange for each gun turned in, a $200 gift card to Vicente’s grocery store will...

Madison, Wisconsin had a gun turn in event last weekend.  This type of event is also known as a gun "buy back", which is a propaganda term designed to get people used to the theory that all guns (property) belongs to the government, and that anything the government takes, it is simple taking "back".  The guns at these event, in 99.9% of the cases, never belonged to the government.  This event turned out to be a bust.  Only one gun appears to have been turned in.  Statistically, in Wisconsin, it was likely a broken single shot shotgun or...

Gun turn in events have been losing steam for several years.  Academics agree that they are ineffective; activists agree that in most states, they end up as advertisements for gun ownership.  Only in states such as New Jersey, where private sales are highly regulated, are they contemplated with much enthusiasm by disarmists.  But, New Jersey does make private sales more difficult than most states; and they are contemplating state financed gun turn in events.  From bergendispatch.com: Legislation sponsored by Assemblyman John F. McKeon, Speaker Vincent Prieto and Assemblyman Benjie Wimberly that would create a statewide gun buyback program in...

The Richmond Police Department is trying an innovative approach to reduce violent crime.  Because the policy targets people who are not allowed to own guns, it might have positive effects.  David Kennedy has shown that most murders are committed by a very small group of violent individuals, usually associated with gangs and/or drug trafficking.  Identifying and focusing on those individuals has been shown to drastically reduce the murder rate.  One of the methods used to do this is to encourage people to turn in violent felons who illegally possess firearms.  Richmond Virginia has decided to run with this idea....

Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit has not been on the post long, but already has determined that the policy of demolishing the homes of murderous Arab terrorists should be done away with in cases where the families of the terrorist hand them over. Mandelblit's decision comes with the goal of passing a message that the demolition is not a punishment but rather a deterrent step, as determined by the courts on numerous occasions, reports Channel 2 on Tuesday night. According to the report, due to Mandelblit's decision the planned wave of demolitions of terrorists' homes on Monday night did not include...
  • Gun 'buyback' Transfers Guns to Legal Market, uses Funds to get more Guns 'off the streets'

Photo courtesy of Charles Tassell I have often written that gun turn in programs, also known by the propaganda term 'gun buy back' (you cannot 'buy back' a gun you never owned), would benefit by including private buyers so that more guns could be purchased from people who do not want them, and the proceeds recycled into more gun turn ins. The program would then be self sustaining and perpetual, serving to give people who do not want guns an easy way to legally dispose of them, while saving valuable resources and directing the guns into the legal market. ...
