Let’s recap today’s top news stories: Flight 370, the Malaysian Boeing 777 is still missing, butt apparently we have no clue when, or where, exactly it went missing. I’m afraid this new information can lead us to only one conclusion: Flight 370 was hijacked by space aliens. Cue the music. You are traveling through a new dimension… Barry is considering using his phone and his pen (sound and shadow?) to require overtime pay for previously exempt employees. Boy, that will get the engines of industry fired up again, no? A dimension not only of sight and sound, butt of the...

I found this particular old time radio episode very reminiscent of themes in Star Trek, Outer Limits, Ray Bradbury, and Twilight Zone. Furthermore, it was very interesting to hear about the "Holodeck" and distopian, robotic, disassociated society the family lives in. I think you will find the same similarities and more, and look forward to comments. You can find this episode at http://archive.org. I posted the original podcast link to give props to the podcast that put this one online for their show.

I’m looking for reader input on whether and when New York Times news reporters should challenge “facts” that are asserted by newsmakers they write about. One example mentioned recently by a reader: As cited in an Adam Liptak article on the Supreme Court, a court spokeswoman said Clarence Thomas had “misunderstood” a financial disclosure form when he failed to report his wife’s earnings from the Heritage Foundation. The reader thought it not likely that Mr. Thomas “misunderstood,” and instead that he simply chose not to report the information. Another example: on the campaign trail, Mitt Romney often says President Obama...

An internal U.S. Department of Homeland Security document indicates that a controversial program designed to predict whether a person will commit a crime is already being tested on some members of the public voluntarily, CNET has learned. If this sounds a bit like the Tom Cruise movie called "Minority Report," or the CBS drama "Person of Interest," it is. But where "Minority Report" author Philip K. There is so much competition for “best television show ever” that continuing the argument is probably pointless. Also, apples-to-apples comparisons are difficult to make. Is The Simpsons better than The Sopranos, or are they so different that, apart from both being shown on TV, they have nothing meaningful in common? “Most influential” is a little easier. And there can be no question that the top handful of contenders must include The Twilight Zone — first aired 50 years ago, on Oct. 2, 1959. It remains one of the best-loved shows of all time, and in the subsequent half-century, it has...

(AP) — On a Friday night in October 1959, Americans began slipping into a dimension of imagination as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. They've really never returned. "The Twilight Zone," first submitted for the public's approval by a reluctant CBS, has resonated with viewers from generation to generation with memorable stories carrying universal messages about society's ills and the human condition. Like the time-space warps that anchored so many of the show's plots, Rod Serling's veiled commentary remains as soul-baring today as it did a half-century ago, and the...

The Baby Boomers understand the title. It is the title of the Hugo Award winning short story written by Damon Knight that Rod Serling turned into an unforgettable episode of the original Twilight Zone. Some apparently very well-intentioned aliens land on earth promising to help mankind; they revolutionize technology and they end famine, pestilence, war, and nuclear threat (though, let it be noted, they did nothing about climate change). Most people were thrilled with the aliens, though, as always, there were some skeptics. American cryptographers got a hold of a book that seemed popular with the aliens and attempted to...

Ithaca, N.Y. -In 1924, in Binghamton, a baby was born who would go on to graduate from high school, serve in the army as a paratrooper and demolition specialist, write television screenplays, have a house on Cayuga Lake and work as a professor at Ithaca College. He died in 1975, but at the end of this month, his voice will again be heard in the hallways of Ithaca College. Welcome to the Twilight Zone. That voice being honored is that of Rod Serling. “The Twilight Zone” always began with Serling staring sternly into the camera, telling a serious tale. As...
  • Politically Punk'd? Seriously, McCain vs. Clinton?

Does anyone else have a hard time accepting that the 2008 Presidential race is really going to be between Hillary Clinton and John McCain? Where's the camera crew and Ashton Kutcher? We must be getting Punk'd. How can anyone with intelligence and a conscience vote for Hillary Clinton? Are Democrats as a whole really that stupid and evil? And seriously, the best the Republican party can do is George Bush and then John McCain? Is true conservatism dead?

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement: "I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base." "Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that...

“Is the candidate worthy?” intoned Bishop Patricia Fresen ceremonially, as lifelong Catholic Juanita Cordero stood before her in a pure white gown, about to be ordained as a priest. The question was asked three times during the ordination ceremony on Sunday, July 22, as one female priest and two female deacons were invested with the power to perform sacraments — a function forbidden to women under canon law. They are part of a movement from within the Roman Catholic Church that has been ordaining female priests since 2002, though those involved say that the tradition of women priests and...

In a previous writing called the "Smoking Gun", I discussed the truth that the western church has selectively hidden or forgotten for ages: that the entire Western Church had been excommunicated from the Church of Jerusalem six years before the Council of Nicea, making the entire western church and all its branches including Roman Catholicism, the Orthodox Churches, the Protestant Churches and every sect or cult that has proceed from the festering bowels of this obscene behemoth a part of the same crime of rejecting Jerusalem. Obviously, this is not news that most westerners, especially western religionists want to hear....

Lockheed Martin is working with North America's SuperCorridor Coalition – the Dallas-based trade association – on a $40 million deal to build high-tech sensors to track cargo remotely along a superhighway stretching from Texas to Canada. John Mohler, a senior vice president at Lockheed told the "North America Works II" transportation conference last week in Kansas City that 14 sensor locations would be established in the next three months to track specific cargo shipments along the NASCO corridor The superhighway incorporates Interstates 35, 29 and 94. The sensor locations would include the Mexican port of Lázaro Cárdenas; Laredo, Texas; Kansas...
  • Jill Stanek: Republican Party + homosexuals = anti-life

I wrote in my previous column that revelations during the final weeks of the autumn 2006 election season shifted my thinking on why national Republican Party leaders have been reticent to advance the life issue. It may be too easy to dismiss them as cowards. It may well be they are compromised. Consider the Catholic priest scandal, a tempest of homosexuality, pedophilia and cover-up, and how it paralyzed American Catholic church leaders. Same thing here. The revelations about the GOP were of corruption and homosexuality among legislators and influential staff. (Column continues below) In October, while Mark Foley's homosexual...
