Starbucks spokeswoman Laurel Harper said details are not yet available on when the central Phoenix Starbucks location will close for renovations, specifically...

An older couple walking on Sawyer Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood slowed as they approached the red police tape, and their eyes met those of two young officers standing inside the crime scene. "Pasale, pasale," the officers said to the couple. "Pass." They ducked under the tape and stayed on the sidewalk, away from a cluster of shell casings and shattered glass. A 21-year-old man had been gunned down there. He was the 32nd person shot -- and the sixth killed -- over the weekend. In all, 10 were shot between Sunday afternoon and early Monday morning, nine more...

CHICAGO (CBS) — Mayor Rahm Emanuel says police are doing all they can to quell violence on the streets, but the problem requires having fewer guns on the streets and more moral values in the homes, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore. Mayor Emanuel says he is both saddened and sickened by the rash of gun violence that claimed so many lives this weekend while police officers were on 12-hour shifts and the city’s summer jobs program is employing more people than ever.

The solution to poverty begins in the neighborhoods and the people affected by it, says Robert Woodson, the founder and president of the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise. "You always have to begin with a solution in mind," Woodson told CSPAN Tuesday morning in a discussion on poverty. "I tell people, what is your solution? If all whites tomorrow were to move to Canada and Europe, tell me how it would affect the black on black crime rate, how would it it affect the out-of-wedlock births, how would it affect the spread of AIDS? How would it affect those issues?" he...

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) didn't think much of the Baltimore riots that erupted in protest of the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody. Speaking with Bob Schieffer on Sunday's Face the Nation on CBS, Cummings spoke of the violence as a "situation" that "could've been a lot worse." The violence that erupted in Cummings's city caused the entire crowd gathered at the Baltimore Orioles' stadium to be stuck in lock down mode while the "protestors" raved outside smashing cop cars and hurling flaming barrels. Cummings, who was there at the time, said he had a direct hand in...

Many urbanites use doggie day cares while they work long hours. Paying others to exercise their pets, owners can forgo long walks and enjoy guilt-free pooch snuggling in the evenings. While usually a healthy experience for the dogs, the day care environment, with dozens of pets mingling, contributed to an epidemic of dog flu in Chicago that is spreading in the Midwest, experts say.

As a resident of the upstate portion of New York (not the Big Apple) I have written frequently about the depressing, negative effects which liberal tax and spend policies combined with strangling regulatory burdens have had on the state, as well as the economic death spiral which has followed. Many of the complaints I hear from residents of the more rural, upstate region center on the unbalanced power held by New York City and the complete disconnect between the government and the more conservative, rural communities to the north and west. But even as a person studying and experiencing...
