The Virginia Senate Republican Caucus is footing the bill for republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush’s visit to the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol Thursday. The fundraising event, called Java with Jeb, only lasts an hour long, but we found out it’s costing the Virginia Senate Republican Caucus $1,000 to rent the museum, according to public records. Birthplace of Country Music Executive Director Leah Ross says $1,000 is the standard rental cost. Java with Jeb starts at 11:45 tomorrow. The letter of agreement estimates 50 people will attend.

Four energy partners formally asked the federal government on Friday for permission to build a 564-mile natural gas pipeline in West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina. The 348-page application was submitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The $5 billion Atlantic Coast Pipeline is intended to deliver cleaner burning natural gas to the Southeast as utilities move away from coal-burning power plants amid tighter federal rules on pollution that contributes to climate change. Richmond, Virginia-based Dominion Resources Inc. and Charlotte, North Carolina-based Duke Energy would have 45 percent and 40 percent ownership stakes in the pipeline, respectively. Virginia school board chairperson has caused an uproar after posting an anti-Muslim cartoon on Facebook, questioning why Muslims wanted to come to America. The post read, “Muslims hate pork, beer, dogs, bikinis, Jesus, and freedom of speech. My question is, what the hell do they come to America for?!” The controversial meme, which was shared from the Facebook group, The Conservative Hammer, has since been taken down.

Prior to Donald Trump’s rally Monday night in Dallas, Texas, Chris Matthews and the panelists on MSNBC’s Hardball mocked Republican women and voters from “southwestern Virginia” of Scots-Irish heritage who’ve “got an attitude” and previously supported Democrats like Jim Webb. More than 20 Christiansburg High School students are out of class Thursday morning after wearing Confederate flags on their clothing. According to Montgomery County Public Schools spokesperson Brenda Drake, the students were originally put in in-school suspension. However, the students didn’t comply and were told to leave school for the day. This involves 22 or 23 students, according to Drake. Several students were given in-school-suspension and 17 were given out of school suspension for disrupting the school day. FALLING WATER, W.Va. — A tractor-trailer loaded with more than 100 head of cattle overturned on Interstate 81 Saturday morning, spilling its bovine cargo and blocking the southbound lanes for four hours, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office. The crash was reported at about 2 a.m. just south of the Potomac River where the tractor-trailer, loaded with 102 head of cattle, had wrecked, according to the news release from Deputy B.M. Humphrey. In what is (hopefully) doomed to be an exercise in pointless, political posturing, Senator Tim Kaine (D – Virginia) has introduced yet another bill designed to discourage people from selling firearms to those legally entitled to purchase them. His bill, ironically named the “Responsible Transfer of Firearms Act,” seeks to make some things illegal which are already completely illegal and to criminalize the use of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) if the system (not the private owner) makes a mistake. Should such a bill find its way through Congress it would be disturbing to say the least.
