Six months ago, Vallejo was drawing hordes of hookers from all over the West. The then-bankrupt city's threadbare police patrols were overwhelmed, and citizens were furious at the yowling of pimps and streetwalkers hawking their wares 24/7 in once-quiet neighborhoods. Vallejo police and residents have squelched the streetwalker problem so effectively, relying heavily on security cameras and neighborhood watch groups, that most hookers have either fled town or turned to other work.
