The second the first Apache attack helicopter appeared over the sovereign American territory that is the American Embassy in Baghdad, one knew that things would be different this time. We would see the difference between a President Obama resting for a fundraising trip to Las Vegas the next morning and a President Trump, having avenged the killing of an American contractor, dispatching Iran’s top general and commander of its Quds Force before he could kill any more Americans. Instead of a Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ignoring repeated warnings from her ambassador and not answering his pleas for more security,...

The theory seems to be percolating that President Bush is walking into a political trap here at home by readying a plan to rush more troops to Iraq to reinforce our GIs in the thick of the fight. Senator Biden, a Democrat, and Senator Warner, a Republican, are hyperventilating about how they want to consider the plan. Senator Reid and Speaker Pelosi are in open opposition. By our lights it would be just dandy if they manage to force a vote on the issue. Go ahead and make the president's day. We have more than 100,000 GIs in Iraq being...

By Wade Zirkle SINCE THE Global War on Terror was launched four and half years ago, Americans are now only casually reminded of the sacrifices that our new generation of warriors are making in Afghanistan, Iraq and other desperate corners of the world. Usually these reports come in the form of terse, sterile news briefs: a fleeting portrait of a service member flashing across a TV screen or a radio sound-bite at the top of the hour that notes that soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb. When there is an occasional in-depth story, it often focuses on the nature...

SYRIA:Syria in US's too-hard basket By Ashraf Fahim CAIRO - It's now clear that the administration of US President George W Bush just doesn't know what to do about Syria. It can't live with Syrian President Bashar Assad, the only significant Arab potentate indifferent to US interests, and it is bewildered at whether or how to bring him down. The potential implication by United Nations investigators (and even by former Syrian vice president Abd al-Halim Khaddam) of high Syrian officials in the murder of former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Hariri seems the ideal pretext for the United States to pursue...

Responding to WND's report about a sign in a Seattle storefront cheering U.S. enemies, a talk-radio station mobilized listeners to gather in front of the building with flags and calls of support for American troops. The sign, urging "Victory to the Iraqi Resistance," appears on the New Freeway Hall Community Center near the city's downtown on multi-ethnic Rainier Avenue, home of the local branch of the Freedom Socialist Party. John Carlson's afternoon drive-time program on KVI in Seattle was one of at least a half-dozen local talk shows to feature the story, which lit up call-in lines. Carlson, a former...

President Bush says we're waging a "War on Terror," but the terrorists have made it clear what they're fighting for. A vote for Bush or Kerry will be a vote for or against the war on terror. Kerry, of course, has already famously said, "I think there has been an exaggeration" of the terror threat by the Bush White House. Others on the Left go even farther, complaining that the word terrorism itself is being kept deliberately imprecise: "Few American politicians or commentators," asserts John V. Whitbeck, an international lawyer based in Saudi Arabia, in Tuesday’s International Herald Tribune, "dare...

JERUSALEM: The Israeli military has arrested a member of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's presidential guard who had been involved in numerous shooting attacks, an Israeli security source said. Force 17 member Bashar Said Kamal Khatib, 30, was arrested in his home town of Qalandia just south of the West Bank town of Ramallah during Israel's reoccupation of West Bank cities in April, the source said. Details of his arrest were released after the conclusion of an investigation into Khatib's activities. The probe found Khatib guilty of involvement in numerous shooting attacks at soldiers and Israeli buses, the source said. Meanwhile,...
