Just a Vanity here. My wife just told me that two of her friends on Facebook are reporting Snow today in Upstate New York and Ohio. May 15, 2016 Intellicast radar showed the 'blue' for snow. But I wanted to see/hear if anyone out there saw any. http://www.intellicast.com/National/Radar/Current.aspx?location=USNY0124
  • KTLA Meteorologist Handed A Sweater During Scandalous Weather Report

A KTLA broadcast is making the virtual rounds via Twitter and Facebook, and it's awkward as hell. Viewers were so horrified by the sight of meteorologist Liberté Chan's arms that an off-screen anchor handed her a sweater mid-report so she might cover her shameful upper body. As if by magic, a hand appears with a grey sweater. "You want me to put this on?" she says disbelievingly. "Why? 'Cause it's cold?" "We were getting a lot of emails," said the off-camera voice.

Discovery of missing climbers, preserved in glacier, ‘brings closure and relief’ 16 years after deadly avalancheOn the slopes of Tibet’s Shishapangma — the world’s 14th-tallest peak, a glacial mountain that rises some 26,000 feet above sea level — a pair of European climbers stumbled upon the remains of a disaster that struck 16 years earlier. Locked under a layer of blue ice for more than a decade, but exposed in an early melt brought about by hotter than average weather, was another pair of climbers. Hikers David Goettler and Ueli Steck have, in all likelihood, found the resting place of...

From the Powerline blog:Nebraska attorney Dave Begley is our faithful Omaha correspondent. Dave reports: (video follows)Friday night in a crowd of 500 to 700 people at Creighton University it appeared that I was not only the only conservative, I was also the only person who was thinking clearly and critically. One of global warming’s oldest and most revered leaders, Dr. James Hansen, spoke prior to his protest at the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders’ meeting on Saturday. I have never heard such nonsense in my life. He gave a rambling and incoherent presentation for nearly two hours. Three times he forgot...

Since both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sander are quite keen to talk about climate change and carbon taxes, let’s take a brief break from the campaign trail and check in on how Mother Gaia is doing these days. We’ve recorded what some climate scientists claim is a string of record warmest months over the past year and if I were judging by the almost snow-free, mild winter we just enjoyed in upstate New York and the rest of the northeast (watch out for the bears) I’d have to agree. So I assume this means we’re all doomed. But oddly...

The article “US Senate Considering Albedo Modification Geoengineering Proposal” appeared as I finished this article. It commented on the plan to introduce particles into the atmosphere to increase the reflective capability of the Earth’s atmosphere known as the albedo. Most responses correctly identified it as unwise. Isn’t it already happening? Jet contrails from commercial airline flights reduce the amount of sunlight that makes it to the surface, as this satellite image shows:Jet contrails as seen by satellite. Have you noticed a caterpillar invasion in your neighborhood? Our wet winter and spring has led to even more caterpillars than usual. There's one creepy insect that seems to be bugging a lot of people. "I was walking and apparently one of those things came down on my shoulder. It fell off but I didn't really realize it until I got home. " said Mere Zhana. "You should have seen me! I really freaked out and was jumping around trying to kick it out of my apartment." In Texas this time of year the moth caterpillars are out in full...

In a speech he said he was giving “to recognize the importance of the signing” of the Paris climate agreement, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D.-Ore.) declared on the Senate floor last week that “global warming is…the more challenge of our generation.” […] “We know what the stakes are,” the senator said. “We don’t need computer models to look 50 years into the future because the impacts are here today. We see it in our own communities. We see it in our own States. We see it through the impact of droughts, the impact of wildfires, the impact of heat waves, the...

Trouble ahead for all of us A stunning and terrifying event has taken place in space surrounding our planet; for two hours today, earth’s “Magnetosphere” COLLAPSED around the entire planet! The magnetosphere is what protects earth from solar winds and some radiation. EARTH’S MAGNETOSPHERE Deep within the Earth, a fierce molten core is generating a magnetic field capable of defending our planet against devastating solar winds. The protective field, called the “magnetosphere” extends thousands of miles into space and its magnetism affects everything from global communication to animal migration and weather...

Not sure how this will turn out. This was something I saw earlier today that I thought was important. When I went back through threads, I couldn't find it. When I searched online and found this image, it said Free Republic had removed it. What I need to know is - was it removed because it was proven false, or because it was a Getty image or some other copyright issue? Very important to know. Thank you.

Seven Earth Day predictions that failed spectacularly Anthony Watts / 2 hours ago April 22, 2016 Never Trust The Doom-Mongers: Earth Day Predictions That Were All Wrong Environmentalists truly believed and predicted that the planet was doomed during the first Earth Day in 1970, unless drastic actions were taken to save it. Humanity never quite got around to that drastic action, but environmentalists still recall the first Earth Day fondly and hold many of the predictions in high regard. So this Earth Day, The Daily Caller News Foundation takes a look at predictions made by environmentalists around the original Earth...

As many as 170 countries are expected to sign the Paris Agreement on climate change Friday in a symbolic triumph for a landmark deal that once seemed unlikely but now appears on track to enter into force years ahead of schedule. U.N. officials say the signing ceremony Friday will set a record for international diplomacy: Never before have so many countries inked an agreement on the first day of the signing period. That could help pave the way for the pact to become effective long before the original 2020 deadline — possibly this year— though countries must first formally approve...

For hundreds of millions of years, Earth's climate has remained on a fairly even keel, with some dramatic exceptions: Around 80 million years ago, the planet's temperature plummeted, along with carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. The Earth eventually recovered, only to swing back into the present-day ice age 50 million years ago. Now geologists at MIT have identified the likely cause of both ice ages, as well as a natural mechanism for carbon sequestration. Just prior to both periods, massive tectonic collisions took place near the Earth's equator -- a tropical zone where rocks undergo heavy weathering due to...

The U.N.’s scientific panel on climate change will write a special report on how to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) compared with pre-industrial times. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change agreed Thursday to explore the issue after a request by world governments in Paris last December. Many scientists say it will be virtually impossible to keep warming below that level without removing vast quantities of heat-trapping greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. …

FOR MORE THAN A CENTURY, THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED ITS FORECASTS IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. But in the age of social media that’s considered yelling, so next month federal meteorologists are lowering their voices and their letters — except in dire emergencies. Weather service spokeswoman Susan Buchanan said the agency started using all capital letters in 1849 forecasts because of the telegraph. Twenty years ago, the agency tried phasing out the practice, but old equipment wouldn’t recognize lower-case letters. …

Washington (AFP) - Global warming could make the planet far hotter than currently projected because today's scientific models do not correctly account for the influence of clouds, researchers said this week. The study in the journal Science was led by researchers at Yale University and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. When climate scientists look ahead to how much the planet's surface temperature may warm up in response to a doubling of carbon dioxide -- a byproduct of fossil fuel burning -- they typically predict a rise of between 2.1 and 4.7 degrees Celsius (3.75 to 8.5 degrees Fahrenheit). But these models...

(CNSNews.com) - White House Science Advisor John Holdren says because of the impacts of climate change, agricultural and construction workers “will basically be unable to control their body temperature and will die.” “In some parts of the world, when you look more broadly at this question, you see the likelihood that in the hottest times of the year it will be simply physiologically impossible to work outdoors,” Holdren said at a White House event on climate change Monday. “That means agriculture, that means construction, people who try to work outdoors will basically be unable to control their body temperature and...

The island of Juist off Germany’s North Sea coast is testing out a new idea for alternative energy: self-sufficient wind-powered street lamps, which could be a model even for developing countries. The blustery shores of Juist in the North Sea certainly have no shortage of wind, which has given the island reason to launch a new energy-saving pilot project. In the next two weeks, the island will be setting up the first wind-powered street light created by a designer based in Schleswig-Holstein, Peer Langemak, a spokesman from Juist told The Local on Monday. Langemak and his team “noordforce” spent a...
