It is virtually impossible to separate economics from politics, and politics from a society's culture - but is economics inherently intertwined with religion as well?
Fox Business Network (FBN) anchor Stuart Varney thinks so. On FBN's April 14 broadcast of "Varney & Co." Father Jonathan Morris joined the show's panel and explored the question.
"Do you think that Europe's paganism - it's turn away from Christianity - has anything to do with Europe's economic decline?" Varney bluntly asked the priest. "Can you link this secularism - what I call paganism' in Europe- directly to economic decline?"

Rome built a great empire and they were pagans.
Rome was not a capitalist society. It was also a barbaric society in terms of behavior and social mores.

Rome was destroyed.
All things come to an end. What great state has maintained it’s greatness forever? Rome lasted a thousand years in the West and was Christian at the time of it’s destruction.
I think it can be reasonably said that religion promotes economic success, as long as it is a constructive religion. But religion alone does not predict productivity, as islam so clearly demonstrates.
By barbarians. Who were even more pagan than the Romans.
DUH!
Liechtenstein,Corsica and dare I say Cornwall are the only places that really have that European feel.
That and Switzerland and a few others.
Once you turn into a mindless nation with a ruling class which by the way always seems to be made up of outsider:it is English/Italian in France and French/Scottish in England.
Laughable way to run a continent.
It depends on what you call a “great empire.”
They enslaved a lot of people and used burning Christians for lighting at evening parties.
And obviously, they collapsed.
Radio talk show host Michael Savage, who is religiously Jewish, says that the only hope for America is if there is a resurgence in Protestant Christianity in this country.
Show me an area with religious Christian and I will show you an area that votes Republican and conservative.
By any definition Rome was a great empire. The United States enslaved a lot of people. I still consider it a great nation. The Barbarians did not “collapse” Rome. It decayed from within and the Germanic tribes took advantage of the collapse. At the time of the collapse Christianity was the official religion.
Not only is your statement blatantly false but typical of a drive-by socialist troll who hates America and ignores reality. Now go back to DU you commie rat!
Do you think that Europe’s paganism - it’s turn away from Christianity - has anything to do with Europe’s economic decline?”
I’m a conservative. I love America. Slavery was legal in the US until 1863 and 4 million people were enslaved at that time. How is rewriting history patriotic?
C'mon, Jessie - you can do better than that feeble attempt at slandering America. Or is that you, Al?
So why knock Rome? Slavery there ended sixteen hundred years ago.
