Michael Savage, going, going, gon.....

Michael Savage is going, going, gone?

Michael Savage when I first starting listening to him, seemed to be the only guy who would just - tell it like it is! Hey, he still does. I don't know that he really preaches conservatism, but certainly bashes liberalism - and stupidity non-stop. He will also rip Bush for Illegal Aliens, and wasting of money - where other talk show hosts, won't really do it (hey, at least not with passion - admit it!)

However, Michael Savage  has got a problem(s). I think he's lazy maybe - at least compared to the other big hitters in talk radio like Hannity and Glen Beck. He is more or less relying on his brilliant mind, but I think it can't carry him much further. Until just recently, his website looked like it was put together by a 6 year old, and it's just my impression, but I don't think he does show prep - Mr. Savage, time to get to work or you'll be going, going gone!

You are right about the website. I stopped going though now I hear him saying he has a new guy and it's been redesigned.

Savage mentions Arthur Godfrey and others from his youth. I remember Godfrey and like millions of Americans I enjoyed his radio shows. In some respects Savage's show is from those days -- at least in my memory

Radio was not so partisan in those days because virtually every city had Democrat and Republican newspapers and TV "news" had not become dominate and anti-modern conservative propaganda. Savage of course is very partisan for conservatism.

Radio was variety, talk mixed with music for example. Cincinnati had a couple of great talk show hosts in that era (King and Thomas) though their music was records not live like Godfrey's national show.

Show prep never entered my mind in those days though of course it was there. Radio was natural and spontaneous or least the best ones made it seem that way.

I disagree that Savage has little or no show prep. He comes on the air with a stack of topics. It's true he eschews guests. It's true he relies on "his brilliant mind" -- and his voice -- but that is his appeal; plus, the willingness to put his butt on the line to say things too volatile for others to say. Things that IMO need to be discussed. Nevertheless, he does have a couple of irritaing habits but in general the good outweighs the bad, IMO.

Rush is the best, of course. But I really like Liddy...Always have, when I've been able to find him. Laura Inghram is good too. Hannity is just way too repetitive and simple minded. I catch Glen Beck sometimes, but he's just OK. Michael Ghalager is OK too, but I'm embarrassed for us that he's getting spots on FOX News. And yes...Medved is still very good.

I've listened to them all, and although he gets bashed around here, Imus is about my second favorite behind Rush. It's refreshing, for a change, that he's not overly partisan, just honest...But still, fairly conservative. Even though he did vote for Kerry.

Savage is only good when he is on his med. Unfortunatly, thats very rare.

He's a crazy old man with an Estrich-like voice who has occassional moments of sanity when he is brilliant.

My fave radio hosts, btw, are Neil Boortz and Laura Ingraham. I also listen to El Rushbo, who is OK as long as he sticks to politics.

I think many Freepers overrated Michael Weiner because he is the only major talk show host who addresses the immigration issue.

The only part of Savage's show I really enjoyed was him ripping the libs as a bunch of destructive commie bastards. Those times are growing fewer every show. Now, its mostly every other conservative is a rotten S.O.B. to him. I have better things to do than listen to that everynight.

Couldn't agree more! Hannity has lost whatever he once had and morphed into a cross between Lawrence O'Donnell and Chris Mathews; talking over and belittling anyone with the audacity not to walk lockstep with him. He doesn't use factual, logical arguments to debate, just a louder (high pitched) voice to make so much noise that you can't hear the other guy. He's like a child with his fingers in his ears chanting "la la la la la".

Nope - can't bear Savage anymore - he's turned too savage. I get 3 hours of Laura Ingraham and then 3 of Tony Snow every day - then 3 of Hannity - but can only do about an hour of him...usually do Rush instead, since they've on at the same time...but can not listen to the snarling savage.

sometimes wonder if Savage isn't a mole - to get a lib on the radio and get an audience and then revert to the lib line?

I listen sometimes just for the comedy factor. He makes me laugh, what a nut job. But I think it's all an act. His name is Michael Weiner. Michael "Savage" is a character, IMHO

There you have it. It is an act. What's shocking is the number of people who think that his spiel is real.

Go figure.

I always thought he missed a great opportunity by not calling his show "The Savage Weiner".

It's perfect for a San Francisco based program.

In all honesty, I'm just finding that out from this very thread.

Savage is a lunatic.

While he makes some good points, he does so in such a rant/rave kind of way that he is nearly unbearable.
