Never mind the fact that they earn high incomes from these corporations and own stock in these corporations. Never mind the fact that corporations provide large numbers of jobs, and that we cannot rely on mom and pop family businesses to feed America and produce much of what we need,

The environmentalists have theirs' so screw everyone else.

By all means, lets fund more studies, but heaven forbid that we actually DO anthing!!

Look, this nation has vast reserves of potential energy, but we are allowed to exploit virtually nothing of it.

Coal, oil, oil shales, oil sands, natural gas, hydro potential, geothermal........the stuff is everywhere, and I do mean in every state and in most counties. There is a huge known oil/gas region under where I sit typing this, here in Maryland. Federal law prohibits even exploration.

Most alternative energy sources are nothing but pipe dream. They are fine for local, even residential use, but inadequate for large scale generation.

Wind power suffers from Nimbyism and is attacked by bird protectionists. Wave and tidal power schemes have similar issues. Geothermal outside of Iceland has to fight envirofreaks to even get access to most potential areas, much less get permits to build plants. Large scale solar generation has been proven a failure in California, and is not practical anywhere it rains.

We need to go with what we know works, while safer, cleaner sources are developed. Let's drill off the California coast, let's drill off the Virginia coast, and while we're at it lets drill in my back yard.

Most of what I see here is a hoax. We don't need more research, what we need is to realize that new technologies are blocked by politics. The rest is BS. We have done the research over 30 years but implementing wind and bio fuels means transferring much economic power from places like New Jersey and California to Montana and Iowa. The old guard will not let that happen and block implementation of needed distribution capabilities. If you want to see energy self-sufficiency, support getting the government out of the business they hamstring by all of their meddling.

May I be at least one of the first to welcome you to the Free Republic.

I will also recommend you purchase your hybrid in Europe and have it shipped. Otherwise you will have a long wait to get one once back in the US.

There's no reason why California shouldn't reject all forms of energy production that aren't "natural".

What could be more natural than pumping pockets of dinosaur farts out of the ground. These peepel need edukating.

<<>> This is an interesting thought. The economics don't work as well as they do with oil, because food is a renewable resource. In theory there is a limit to the amount of food available based on the amount of total nutrients, water and energy available, but technology would allow any nation with limited supplies of one to either employ technology or purchase the necessary materials on their own. The cartel would have to be extremely effective, otherwise, the US would just lose market share. Essentially the inability to import food would be solved through a combination of cheating and innovative technology. It has a lot more parallels with oil than perhaps you may have originally intended.

As Mr. Watson looked on, Chief Happynook, addressing the Conference on Environmental Law and Canada's First Nations, November 1999, conveyed his disappointment with the environmental movement.

"Over the past 30 years, I have witnessed the environmental movement evolve from individuals who were truly concerned about the environment to a protest industry which is now a multitude of multi-million dollar corporations". The protest industry has abandoned fact, and has instead, through "media manipulation ... lobbying initiatives, and misinformation dissemination" used the media to portray sea-mammal hunters as "unethical barbarians without conscience".

Accusing Mr. Watson and the protest industry he represents of "collecting millions of dollars by preying on people who are unaware of the dynamics of indigenous cultures and coastal communities, and our relationship to our environment and ecosystems".

Chief Happynook posed a pointed question to them: "what puzzles me is, if they are truly environmentalists, conservationists, then why are they not spending the millions of dollars they raise on stopping the pollution that is negatively affecting the oceans (and) our traditional food sources?". Mr. Watson, apparently prepared only to discuss whaling, made no reply.

Forget the hybrid, it is bogus, way too many current and future problems. Wait for the next generation or 2 or...get yourself a Honda Civic.

The political left, including many socialist and Marxist Democrats, engage in blatant hypocrisy as they attempt to dictate that others live a reduced lifestyle and level of comfort and safety while they continue to live their lavish lifestyles.

The highly offensive Arianna Huffington was jetting around in private jets while placing advertisements claiming that if you drive a Sport Utility Vehicle (the demonized "SUV") you are guilty of supporting terrorism. Needless to say, private jets are less efficient than larger passenger jets just as limousines are less efficient that public buses.

Many of the wealthy elitist socialist and communist Democrats are hypocrites on an even more important issue - the natural right of ordinary nonviolent adults to self-defense and to own firearms, the safest and most effective means of self-defense.

These gun using "anti-gun" elitist hypocrite liberals include the following, and many more:

A little much in my view....Believe me, you are not telling me a thing I was not already aware of. But here's one for ya......Rosie claims to be a champion of the homeless street people. A reporter dressed in shabby clothes and placed himself outside her gated home......30 minutes later he was busted by local cops. She does not practice what she preaches....lol We KNOW they are a bunch of hypocrites

I lived in Alaska from 1974 till 2003. The Alaska oil from the wildlife refuge area is NOT a short term solution to oil woes, anyone who thinks it is is IMO delusional It is a long term one when you consider the mechanics of getting it and transporting it. That being said, we still need to get it and as soon as possible. And you would have to really look to find an Alaskan who disagrees on the subject
