As I was driving my car this morning, I heard on the radio how the governor of my state , Bill Richardson (D), was asking state workers to help conserve fuel. The report went on to say that the governor tootles around in an SUV, getting aroung 12 mpg. Gov Richardson's spokesperson said the governor was considering a more enetgy efficient vehicle but.......

There are so many people saying "just get rid of the SUV" but it's not that easy. Many people owe so much more than their car is worth they just can't trade it in right now or sell it. That issue is itself another problem entirely, but it's still a fact.
I'm not saying that Richardson can't (I'm sure he can) but being the elitist hypocrite he is he won't anyway...
I would think that someone who had been US Secy of energy would have a better plan. The autoi companies have promotions of 30 mpg cars coming up. Some will change, Everyone does not need to do the same thing. Being retired, I only drive a little now, so I don't really care, for instance.
There have long been conspiracy theories suggesting that the technology already exists for 100 mpg affordable cars but the oil companies paid off the automakers...
