Bush: All religions pray to 'same God'

President George Bush has repeated his belief all religions, "whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God" – an assertion that caused outrage among evangelical leaders when he said it in November 2003.

Bush made the statement Friday in an interview with Al Arabiya reporter Elie Nakouzi.

Al Arabiya is Al Jazeerah's top competitor in the Mideast.

As the president and Nakouzi walked from the Oval Office to the Map Room in the White House residence, Nazouki asked, "But I want to tell you – and I hope this doesn't bother you at all – that in the Islamic world they think that President Bush is an enemy of Islam – that he wants to destroy their religion, what they believe in. Is that in any way true, Mr. President?"

"No, it's not," said Bush. "I've heard that, and it just shows [sic] to show a couple of things: One, that the radicals have done a good job of propagandizing. In other words, they've spread the word that this really isn't peaceful people versus radical people or terrorists, this is really about the America not liking Islam.

"Well, first of all, I believe in an Almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God. That's what I believe. I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace. And I believe people who murder the innocent to achieve political objectives aren't religious people, whether they be a Christian who does that – we had a person blow up our – blow up a federal building in Oklahoma City who professed to be a Christian, but that's not a Christian act to kill innocent people.

It’s not what goes into a man that defiles him, it is what comes out of a man that defiles him.

A person may be from a Muslim culture, be raised by his parents and nation to learn Islam, prays to God, but in his thinking if he places his relationship to God in His hands by His method of providing salvation, then that person might actually be a believer through faith in Christ. Even if he doesn’t know the letters of His name, the believer knows the meaning f the name in his heart when he believes.

Taking the Lord’s name in vain is more about taking the meaning of Him in vain, rather than the transliteration of his title.

It is possible for a person to pray to God the Father and not be heard, because the person seeking Him does so through arrogance and not by the protocols God has established for us to have fellowship with Him.

I concur though, with your point. The false prophet came along 600 years after our Lord was physically resurrected and ascended to heaven. The Koran is false doctrine. Accepting the Koran as a comparable access to God with cognizance of Christ is to deny Christ.

If his bothers some worldly folk, consider the prayers of Jesus Christ to God the Father in the Garden of Gethsemene, wherein He asked that if it was possible by any other means for him not to have to go through the ordeal he was about to experience. If one accepts Islam, then one must insist that the God of Jesus is not the same God as the god of Islam.

There are no other Gods fake or otherwise, only false religions, fake prophets and fallen Angels. God is everywhere...why do you (seriously) why do you think he is stuck inside a rock? I sure don’t. Do you?

God is everywhere. If you answer yes..then you beleive that God is limited to a rock, if you say no then you beleive that God can not be inside a rock. If God chooses to be inside a rock he can be. If he chooses to be the rock he can be.

Your question is a set up that there is no yes or no answer to and shows that you do not believe in the full power of God.

I am not a Muslim and I do not pray toward a rock or to a rock or a "God" confined to a rock.

Is God unable to be inside a rock? Yes or No?

Is there a God confined to a rock? Yes or No?

I see no answer from you to my questions.

It's time for me to get to some chores. God Bless You.

There is NO justification whatsoever for a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ - any reason/circumstance justifiable at all for him/her to say this.

To come in the name of Jesus, call yourself a Christian and then speak this false gospel - that all names and gods will lead one to the Father is a lie as big as lies and deceptions get on the scale of eternal importance and will send unbelievers around the world straight to hell - while all along they have been lead to believe by someone coming in the name of Christ that the various roads they have chosen will also get them to the Father.

The world and nations need to hear loud and clear that Christians condemn this false gospel of universal salvation, consider it blasphemy. They need to know that the Holy Scriptures says clearly, without a doubt that they must call on the name of Jesus Christ to be saved. No other name given that they may call upon but His.

this explains a lot about him! That is the most liberal tendency possible, short of atheism.

I consider myself to be a conservative and have been a freeper here for quite some time. I consider myself a traditionalist - pro-military, anti-abortion, anti-Clinton et.al pro-war on terror. I do refer to my higher-power as God, but do not consider myself a Christian. I do believe that there are other ways to nurture one’s spirituality other than Christianity. I am not Muslim but practice my relationship to my higher Power as I understand ‘him’. I think Bush is trying to convey the message that all of man’s religions attempt to point to a common benevolent universal spirit. Unfortunately, the radical sects of religion are what gives certain religions a generalized bad name. I don’t have problems with what he said. There are other religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism in the world that espouse universal teachings of patience, love, tolerance, etc.
