I would value any input, pro or con, relative to the Taurus Judge Magnum, .45 LC / .410

very good close quarter handgun. especially in a carjack scenario. ability to shoot .410 shot is a plus.

it's ugly as sin, though.

Any ideas on why it is not an illegal sawed-off shotgun?

I just re-subscribed to "Shooting Times" magazine after maybe a 30 year absence. Just got my first issue and there was a test of the Judge.

Now I frankly take gun tests in these magazines with a bit of skepticism but I think this one was probably accurate.

It was accurate, apparently not suffering from the long chambers in .45LC. The .410 shotshells were also effective, especially the triple ought buckshot load.

I personally think it is ugly and will not normally but a gun that I don't like the looks of, but it does sound like a good one.

It has rifling is the only thing I can think of. Well maybe the fact that it is a pistol, also helps.

I own one. Agree that it is a good, close quarter remedy to an immediate threat. She spreads out pretty quick. Not for walking around carry. Mine sits on the nightstand when I’m home and close at hand while in the vehicle.

You won’t spend an afternoon shooting it, either....

Pro: you can use it against snakes more effectively than snakeshot out of any other revolver

Con: I read one review that said using semi-wadcutters was not easy because of the gap between the ramp and the end of the bullet is like an inch and it doesnt feed into the barrel as easily as a roundnosed round would.

And good luck finding any non-slug shotgun shells other than skeet rounds in 2 1/2 inch 410 shot shells.

For defense, I have trouble seeing how you can beat it. Just go out and get a lot of practice so you aren’t caught off guard by the mule kicking your hand.

If you are looking for something to just shoot for enjoyment, look elsewhere.

i have NO idea!

perhaps the rifled barrel? barrel length classifies it as a handgun regardless?

I have a 2 inch barrel 38, 7 1/2 inch 44 and have “The Judge” on my Christmas List. I prefer the shorter non magnum 410/45 version to reduce recoil.

I would never want to persuade someone from NOT buying a gun, but I do believe it is important to make informed decisions. So best of luck to you whatever you decide on.
I myself am going to a gun show this weekend to spend money I dont have on a gun I probably don’t need out of fear of a presidential administration I dont want! :)

At the risk of disagreeing with almost every other poster on the thread, I think this is about the worst choice one could make for a self defense pistol.

The barrel is too short to make effective use of the .45LC cartridge, finding ANY .410 ammunition that's suitable for the purpose is very, very difficult, and in the .410 load the barrel is waaaay to short to obtain any decent velocity from a slug.

Nearly all of the powder in those cartridges is burned outside the barrel, robbing velocity.

One would be FAR better off IMO to purchase a small frame .38 caliber revolver and use that.

This thing is nothing more than a gun company marketing gimmick designed to separate suckers from their money.

My original thought was the use of the 410 in a quick reaction situation where aiming may be impaired. Seeing the test in post #12 does make me re-think that, however.
