(Discussion Thread) Romney's 1994 Debate With Ted Kennedy: Is Romney a 'Real Conservative?'
Conservative Brawler ^ | August 7, 2009 | Conservative Brawler

Posted on 08/07/2009 7:10:59 AM PDT by Seth_Stuck

Someone sent this video to me as a means to saying Romney isn't a "real conservative." I'm curious to see if any of you agree with this analysis, and why. Please post your thoughts directly on the blog in response to this post.

I will add my comments in a later post...

Not at all - I simply understand the truism that there are different conservative communities throughout the net (the thousands who read my blog included) who are unaware of each others' existence.

Well, the next time your blog brings down someone on the level of Dan Ratherbiased or gets mentioned by Rush Limbaugh on a regular basis, be sure and let us know.

You support Romney.
You are not a conservative.

How did you help Team Romney’s attacks on Gov. Palin and her children from BU?

Again, understand your post fit a profile and while assumption is a bad thing, it happens. Many will not take nor have the time to scour your history to figure out your angle, and are less inclined to do so since your post fits a known pattern of the Romneybots... Sometimes it is better to shoot first, ask questions later when one is in a battle.

Again, that's no justification for excoriating someone who is a proud and active member of the conservative community. They didn't just "shoot first and ask questions later," they started shooting at one of their own men because he asked a question about the enemy. The criticisms here against me have been ludicrous. I've stated, repeatedly, that I widely and publicly opposed all forms of universal healthcare and bailouts. Why it is these trolls see fit to continue attacking one of their own (if they are indeed actual conservatives) is beyond me.

This isn't a pissing contest... I'm merely pointing out that there are other conservative communities who are unaware of FR. That's a fact. Sharing your comments and thoughts on other conservative sites only improves FR's visibility. That's a fact.

Recommendation.

If you are no fan of Romney, let us know, do a little mea culpa and understand where the animosity is coming from.

Another blog spreading the word on Willard can't be a bad thing.

Then all will be cool and you will be in for a lot of fun here as we continue to bet the “Romneybots” like cheap pinatas on Cinco De Mayo after the Corona truck has arrived with the third shipment of the day.

Where did I say I supported Romney? I HAVE said I oppose the bailouts and universal healthcare. I also widely supported Palin. If you look at the very first posts on my blog a year ago, you'll see that I got into blogging specifically to defend her from smears. Instead, you're just spouting mindless, unfounded drivel.

*looks at the 100 replies of this thread* I'm sorry... I thought we were having a discussion. It would be wonderful if such a (more rational and reasoned) discussion could also take place in the open thread I posted on my blog - hence this thread on FR.

Ugh...

Ok, one more time...

The Romneybots look like us, act like us and claim to be us, even to the point of being “better versions” of us.

So we just don't know unless you raise your flag high...

Just say you are opposed to Mitt, that there has been a misunderstanding and move on...

Goodness. That's almost an indication of a lack of support for Romney.

I work too hard for conservatism not to try to get a little traffic here and there ;)

I will, when the discussion about this debate has concluded on my blog, post my replies to other people's thoughts. If you have a specific concern about his comments in that debate, feel free to post them,and I'll get to them when I reply. I doesn't make sense to waste my time formulating a full response now when I'll just have to add hundreds of caveats later. But, as I've said, I widely and publicly opposed Mitt's stance on the bailouts and healthcare. I will add, however, that I don't think this particular video disproves Romney is a conservative. There are other more damning things that he has said and done that bring his relative conservatism into question. I will provide examples of those in my full reply/blog post.

I’ve been following Seth on Twitter and on his blog, and he’s anything but a phoney. In fact, I admire him for his daily posts of conservative news stories to Digg. That takes a lot of time, I’m sure.

It’s high time we conservatives stop tearing each other down with petty complaints. So what if he has a blog he’s proud of? Blogging takes hours. I should know. FR is one source for us to opine, but a blog gives us more freedom to talk about more topics and, hopefully, offer something of value to other like-minded people. Seth knows how to create attractive and compelling blogs, and he deserves our support, not our criticism. We don’t want to destroy our own, right?

We need more people like Seth on our side. People who are internet media savvy and know how to spread conservative ideas. Conservative blogs direct people to other Conservative blogs and to sites like FR. We need young blood furthering our message to the younger generation who blindly supported Obama.

I always spend a few minutes every day, okay more like a half hour, Digging the articles Seth posts each day. Digg is a tremendously impactful site, and the Obamabots are out in full array trying to spread their disinformation on as many conservative stories as possible. I highly recommend getting on Seth’s Digg list and jumping in the trenches!

e) Massachusetts is full to the brim with sickos who repeatedly elect shameless liars, habitual drunks, and notorious perverts to low, medium, and high office. It’s some kind of demented self flaggelation.

I left Massachusetts forever in January 1995.

Mitt Romney was sworn in as the 70th governor of Massachusetts on January 2, 2003.

Thanks for the update.

But your implication is ridiculous and naive.

Romney is one billion light years from the thugs and near-criminals who have been running Massachusetts for the last 50 years.

Example #1: The Kennedys. ‘Nuff said. (An ex-girlfriend was warned by his staff to never, ever, under any circumstances get in the elevator alone with Teddy Kennedy when she interned for his press office many years ago).

Example #2: John Kerry. Known pathological liar, cannot even keep his lies straight from his own personal entries in his diaries.

Example #3: Former Senate President Billy Bulger. Ran Beacon Hill like his personal fiefdom for a couple decades, while his brother “Whitey” was actively running the Boston Irish Mob and who has been on the FBI Most Wanted for about 25 years now.

If you think Romney is even remotely in this league you are deeply deluded.

Another glutton for punishment.

>>>>>>I will add, however, that I don't think this particular video disproves Romney is a conservative. There are other more damning things that he has said and done that bring his relative conservatism into question. I will provide examples of those in my full reply/blog post.

Don't bother. All the relevant vids of Romney and his anti-conservatism have been posted on FRee Republic for years. That's why you're replies continue to sound "fishy".

If you were a credible conservative, you'd know better. You've been here six-months and you're just catching onto to the fact that Romney is persona non grata around this forum. If you bothered to do a little research, you'd know there exists extensive threads on FR that substantiate Romney's life long support for liberal issues and causes.

A few of my favorite vids.

"Look, I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush.
I'm not trying to return to Reagan-Bush."

~~~ Mitt Romney Video Link
"In my view, [the Contract With America] is not a good idea..."
~~~ Romney Opposes the Contract With America Video Link

"I RESPECT and will protect a woman's right to choose. . . . Women should be free to choose based on their own beliefs, not mine and not the government's."
~~~ Mitt Romney to NARAL, April 2002
Video Link:Romney on Abortion
2002 Video Link: Ann & Mitt Romney on Abortion
2005 Video Link: Romney Pro-life Pretender
There's more where that came from.
