Not sure Mr. Webster (or in this case dictionary.com) would agree with you.

1. to dislike intensely or passionately; feel extreme aversion for or extreme hostility toward; detest: to hate the enemy; to hate bigotry.

“Demands action’ is the key IMHO.

It is the same as trying to convince someone I am not racist. Mo matter how much truth was on my side, if the listener thought I was racist nothing will change his mind.
