Thanks for the ping. I love honey ale and the slight sweetness. It is definitely one of my favorites along with pumpkin and potato beer. The potato beer sounds odd but it is really quite good if you like a lighter ale, which I do. Not sure what mead tastes like but hope to find out in about 6 months when it should be ready.

Most newbies brew crap beer.

Maybe YOU did, my first batch (a wheat beer) was delicious. I've had a couple of less-than-perfect batches over the last few years, but nothing's been undrinkable.
