Confident of victory in the Florida primaries tomorrow but afraid it might not be big enough to derail challenger Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney's team is moving to play down talk he will win by 10 points or more. "The win will wind up big, but we're not going to get double digits," said a key advisor.
Several polls today have Romney's lead increasing to a Real Clear Politics average of 12 percent. Only three of nine of the most recent polls have Romney's lead in single numbers, with the highest being a 20 point lead in a Suffolk University poll released over the weekend.
What's driving the Romney team to downplay expectations are indications that the nasty campaign is angering voters and might put the brakes on the surge of Romney voters to the polls. "Romney's message is clearly resonating in Florida, but the race has been very fluid and Gingrich's negativity is bringing the discourse down," said the advisor. As a result, he added, the vote could be depressed.

Eat this Romney.
NO TEA PARTY support.
NO vote from me, ever!
Any win within 5 points either way keeps the battle moving forward. Santorum’s money should start drying up pretty soon regardless of what happens.
An over 5 point win will add some momentum to whoever gets it.
It will take a 10 point win to be fatal to either at this point.
“Newt’s negativity.”
Too rich.
What’s next? Obama is going to criticize Republicans for class warfare rhetoric?
Romney team has a helluva lot of nerve attacking Newt as making the campaign negative. Is there any lie these people won’t tell?
ATTENTION, FLORIDA SUPORTERS OF RICK, FACE UP !! RICK AIN’T GONNA WIN. BRING YOUR VOTES TO NEWT~! MAKE NEWT A FLORIDA WINNER ~! VOTE NEWT
Awwwwww! Poor Mitty!
Yeah, from Romney, that’s truly “rich.”
Every time Newt beats him, Romney unleashes all the lies and smears, yet he won’t dare to call obama “a socialist.”
Romney is evil. He is obama. George Soros said so.

A new InsiderAdvantage poll conducted Sunday night of likely Republican voters in the state of Florida shows a significant surge for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
The poll has former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leading with 36 percent of voters, followed by Gingrich at 31 percent.
The Sunday results of 646 likely GOP voters are as follows:
* Romney 36 percent
* Gingrich 31 percent
* Santorum 12 percent
* Paul 12 percent
* Other/Undecided 9 percent
“The race will be tighter than expected,” Matt Towery, chief pollster of InsiderAdvantage told Newsmax.
Towery noted that his poll showed a surge for Romney on Wednesday, with him leading Gingrich by 8 points. The InsiderAdvantage poll was among the first to show Romney’s resurgence after his dismal showing in the S. Carolina primary.
The InsiderAdvantage poll was also the first to show Gingrich’s rise in S. Carolina and accurately forecast his win there.
“The trend is favoring Gingrich,” Towery said, noting that while Romney’s lead was still outside the margin of error of 3.8 percent, “It’s not by much.”

I second that. By using such despicable tactics in the Primaries, Mitt has guaranteed that I will not vote for him in November.
FL is a winner take all state, so what’s this whining about Romney. One point or 12, you’d still win.
I sure pray you don’t however.
No, none at all. Romney is buying every RINO endorsement across the South.
He’s literally bought off a good many endorsements in my state of Mississippi!
I am stunned!
Just a few minutes ago, during his Tampa speech on C SPAN, Newt announced that a new Florida poll was released showing a tie !
35% Newt 35% Romney
Yep. Stand by your vow.
NO ROMNEY NO WAY!
The GOP can GTH with Romney!
It’s worthy to note that Romney usually underperforms v polling too.
Romney’s internal polling must show Newt closing on them hard and fast for them to be dialing down expectations on the day before polls close in Florida.
