Romney frets Gingrich's attacks could deflate win
Washington Examiner ^ | January 30, 2012 | Paul Bedard

Confident of victory in the Florida primaries tomorrow but afraid it might not be big enough to derail challenger Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney's team is moving to play down talk he will win by 10 points or more. "The win will wind up big, but we're not going to get double digits," said a key advisor.

Several polls today have Romney's lead increasing to a Real Clear Politics average of 12 percent. Only three of nine of the most recent polls have Romney's lead in single numbers, with the highest being a 20 point lead in a Suffolk University poll released over the weekend.

What's driving the Romney team to downplay expectations are indications that the nasty campaign is angering voters and might put the brakes on the surge of Romney voters to the polls. "Romney's message is clearly resonating in Florida, but the race has been very fluid and Gingrich's negativity is bringing the discourse down," said the advisor. As a result, he added, the vote could be depressed.

Just a few minutes ago, during his Tampa speech on C SPAN, Newt announced that a new Florida poll was released showing a tie ! 35% Newt 35% Romney

Problem is the early voting has already been influenced by the lies in Romney's ads and it won't matter if those voters now realize the truth

There are so many reasons to vote for Newt over Romney the primary ones being that Romney has no core beliefs (other than winning elections is good), and that because he has no core beliefs he resorts to lies, misrepresentations etc. The man is as slimy as they come.

Yeah right! Almost laughable. They've seen the internals and know ROMNEY is in trouble.

See Mr. Romney, this advisor is not helping you. All of us not in the tank for you intrepet this as a big middle finger in our faces:

"Romney's message is clearly resonating in Florida, but the race has been very fluid and Gingrich's negativity is bringing the discourse down," said the advisor

He is a slimy snake. I can't stand people who smile to your face while stabbing you in the back. That is exactly who Mitt Romney is!

Who knows where this FL primary will final come down. But it sure seems to change rapidily as Tuesday approaches. Quinnipiac just released a poll showing Romney with a double digit lead. They are all over the place.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/01/30/over-600000-have-already-voted-in-florida-primary/

Regarding early voting you have a good point. Over 600,000 voters have either voted in early voting or returned an absentee ballot in the Republican Primary according to the above link. That to me shows some interest in this primary.

Exactly so, kcvl.

He wants to play Mr. Nice Guy while he’s wielding the knife.

His surrogates like McCain and Christie are despicable too.

Ditto for Ann Coutler, Brit Hume and Bob -let’s make a deal- Dole!

I hope enough Santorum supporters will read the writing on the wall and realize all they are doing by voting Rick in FL is to ensure a Romney win. But if enough Santorum supporters would get behind Newt, we could stop Mitt!

“It not about winning here (Florida) anymore,” one Romney staffer told BuzzFeed. “It’s about destroying Gingrich — and it’s working.”

Romney advisor on anti-Mitt voters: “They like preachers”

Tampa attorney Paul Phillips illustrates the gap. He came to Romney’s Tuesday morning State of the Union pre-buttal dressed for a business meeting, sporting a blue pinstriped suit and a smart polka-dot tie.

“I’m an educated elitist,” Phillips said before Romney spoke in a warehouse that has closed during the economic recession. “I mean seriously, I don’t view the tea party with a very good light. Most of them quote the Constitution and don’t understand it. It’s pretty scary, actually.”…

“The Romney campaign has been the cucumber sandwiches on silver trays campaign,” said GOP strategist Alex Castellanos. “Newt is running a torches and pitchforks campaign. Who do you think Republicans would want to storm the castle with? When you’re storming the castle you don’t care if your leader has slept around, is on his 50th wife – you just want somebody who says, ‘Let’s go kill them!’”…

Another Romney adviser was more derisive of the Anybody But Mitt Republicans.

“They like preachers,” the adviser said of the tea party demographic. “If you take them to a tent meeting they’ll get whipped into a frenzy. That’s how people like Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich get women to fall into bed with them.”

A lot of votes were cast when Newt was ahead early last week, also, so I have to believe it’s a wash.

Romney’s Advisor Target Practiced on Allen West before Newt Gingrich

By Artemio Muniz

Why would Allen West be left vulnerable in Florida? This rising star within our party finds himself having to prepare for an onslaught from the Democrats without support from the establishment. The same guy who maneuvered Allen West’s possible removal by redistricting, is Mitt Romney’s Florida spokesperson (Will Weatherford). Makes you wonder how we are ever going to build a modern, conservative majority if the establishment keeps trying to purge our Tea Party brothers in arms versus finding ways to work together.

http://www.texasgopvote.com/2012-elections/romneys-advisor-target-practiced-allen-west-newt-gingrich-003796

After last night’s [Jan. 26] Republican Presidential debate, the candidates’ respective spinmeisters made their cases to the media as to why their guy won the debate. One of Governor Mitt Romney’s spokesmen was Florida Representative Will Weatherford, and during the course of his remarks in the “Spin Room”, he shed a very dim light on the ongoing redistricting process in the Florida Legislature….

West’s congressional district inexplicably sheds the most out support as compared to all other incumbent Republican and Democrat Congressman. A few weeks back we quoted an unnamed legislator saying that, “Allen West was screwed”, a statement which was originally made about made five months before the purposed maps were made public, leading insiders to believe that the fix was in against Allen West. But in light of Weatherford’s comment, it is increasingly clear that this is a fait accompli.

According to Weatherford, those preliminary maps will not change- at the most, any additional changes would be minimal, and those changes would not make any appreciable difference from the preliminary maps. In addition, Weatherford stated that a deal was struck between him, Senate President Mike Haridopolos, and Senator Don Gaetz to finalize these maps and push them through as soon as possible.

Weatherford tried to hide behind a need to comply with [state and] federal law, but that’s obviously a dodge since there could have been many ways to comply yet not sacrifice West:
