Low or High, Great Lakes Water Levels Always Blamed on Global Warming
Michigan Capitol Confidential ^ | 4/23/2015 | Jack Spencer

Michigan legislators once tried restricting the sale of bottled water for fear of running out. Today, water levels are once again high and rising.

Last spring, Great Lakes water levels rose above what’s considered average, based on the brief 97-year period that they have been continuously measured. Since then, the lakes have risen enough to cause the sort of concerns associated with high-water periods of the Great Lakes cycle. Those concerns include disappearing beaches, flooding near waterfront dwellings, menacing waves, and even trouble for rescue teams.

Great Lakes water levels rose so quickly compared to other periods that numerous claims – posted on various websites during the most recent trough of the cycle – that low-water levels were evidence of man-made global warming still reside on the Internet. Other residue from the low water level period includes echoes of the political clamor it caused in the mid-2000s.

The 2000 to 2013 low-water level period of the Great Lakes cycle lasted a few years longer than the declines that began in 1926 and 1964. It also became politicized. Former Gov. Jennifer Granholm seized the issue and made it her own.

Legislative hearings were held in the Michigan Capitol, at which testimony attesting to the severity of the alleged crisis was taken. A bevy of laws — some quite draconian – were passed, supposedly to address the situation. A coalition led by the group Clean Water Action demanded that Michigan bottled water companies be required to sell at least 95 percent of their water within the Great Lakes basin.

Geologists, such as those at the United States Geological Survey say that fluctuations of Great Lakes water levels were far more extreme in the past than in modern times.

I wonder if other people feel the same way I do about this water crisis. I just saw a piece on cnbc about how homeowners in California are relandscaping (I made that word up)their lawns to a desert motif. gravel, cactus and things like vegetables. the designer was talking about how this is how people in the rest of the world use their yards because its a twofer. you need less water than a lawn, and you reap food.
ok, my problem is, I grew up, and am nostalgic for, the American way, huge lawn that uses lots of water, dad in the backyard grilling and just using resources because we’re americans and we can.
now, dad will be in the backyard squatting like a Chinese grandmother harvesting vegetables or some old guy in Italy picking tomatos. my brain tells me their way is better, but my heart aches because everyday they keep taking away more of America from us.
am I crazy?

Its mostly a problem for wells.

The neighbor of a place I used to live up in Oceola county told me that the well in my old place had to be drilled deeper a couple years ago. It was at 15 feet but started to go dry so they drilled it to 60 feet.

If the Arctic or the Antarctic gain or lose ice, it proves Global Warming.

If the temperatures are lower for 15 years, it proves global warming. If it's hotter than normal for one year, that proves global warming.

If there are more or less polar bears, it proves global warming.

They have a roulette wheel.
If it lands on red, they win.
If it lands on black, they win.
If it lands on green or the marble skips off the table, that counts as a “pause” and they win.

You can play their card game. If any one of the 52 cards comes up, they win....including the Jokers (Al Gore and Obama)

It's all a despicable Socialist Scam. And the “science” is non-falsifiable. There is nothing that you can say, no mountain of facts, no infinite numbers of times they are caught lying that will dissuade them from believing in the hoax and desiring to make you suffer in the name of their grift.

There are approximately 6 quadrillion gallons of water in the great lakes. For the folks in Rio Linda, that’s 6 million billion gallons, or a 6 followed by fifteen zeros.

You want to save water? Turn off Niagara Falls.

Now that's funny.

Do you know how thin the margin is for floating the barges?

And turning off Niagara Falls would shut down shipping as well.

1.5 million jobs in Michigan are connected to having the Great Lakes at a usable depth.

About 100,000 jobs are in bottled water.

You do the math.

Nope, and I know the feeling.

In the early 70s, my family lived in a house in New Mexico. It had a lush green lawn with four nice climbable (to an 8-year-old) shade trees in the front yard and a hedge in back that concealed the alleyway. The green pleasantly complemented the beige stucco of the southwestern-styled house.

Looked at it on Google Street View not long ago. Gravel front yard. No trees. Very drab looking. Didn’t have the heart to go to the overhead and see what the back yard looks like.

Please remember that the Great Lake levels are manipulated by the government.

Really. Just how do they do that?

Geologists, such as those at the United States Geological Survey say that fluctuations of Great Lakes water levels were far more extreme in the past than in modern times. However, these geologists and other experts who have spent their careers studying the sedimentary evidence (going back centuries) of changing water levels were not invited to speak at any legislative hearings. “It became pretty clear that they weren’t interested in anybody who might disagree with their preconceived position on this and the outcome they were aiming at,”...

Yup, I grew up on Lake St. Clair. In the 1970s they diked up the shoreline around my home because of anticipated high water levels flooding the suburbs of St. Clair Shores.

And turning off Niagara Falls would shut down shipping as well.

I've seen a lot of lake freighters in my day, and I've been to Niagara Falls a few times, but I can't once remember a freighter going either up or down the American or Horseshoe falls.

Shipping goes around the falls via the Welland Canal and its lock system. You can easily turn off the falls and still maintain shipping.

But the US and Canadian hydroelectric power plants use more water than Niagara Falls does. There is an international treaty between the US and Canada to limit the total waterflow down the Niagara River.

The biggest blow would be to tourism if the Falls were turned off permanently. They get turned down every night during the wintertime, and turned up during the day for the tourists.

Years ago the number of fish in the Hudson Riv and other NY waterways dropped below average. These same educated morons blamed it on the use of oral contraceptives. Some time later there was an overabundance of fish, and these geniuses blamed it on the use of Viagra and other such “enhancement” meds. Just like the race hustlers, the eco-twits are right no matter what.

Last time I heard, Viagra didn’t increase sperm count much, so I just had to laugh at the eco-nuts when they said that.
