A US design collective Third Mind Foundation has announced an international design competition to design a wall on the border between the US and Mexico, in response to ideas of border security floated in the US presidential debate.
The real-estate tycoon and leading candidate in the Republican Presidential Primaries, Donald Trump has proposed to tackle the issue of migration by building a wall along the US-Mexican border. The idea is nicknamed The Great Wall of Trump.

the competition is open and anonymous, with the first prize award of $5,000 for the entry that best tackles the practical and conceptual challenges of the proposal.

I can picture middle-finger watchtowers every few hundred yards..
How about a giant sea going mote Texas to Califorina ?then it would do double duty to replace the Panama Canal
Don’t make it too fancy, or the Mexicans will have a hard time paying for it.
Wonder what Trump will think of this, lol. He’ll probably like the idea of the competition.
You know, I’ve had my criticism about Trump, which I’ve posted on here before, but one thing that I do appreciate about him is that he exposed that the GOP never really was serious about border security. They like to talk about it, but they didn’t actually want to implement it. Kind of like your annoying ex-girlfriend who would keep leading you on, but really, she just isn’t that into you. And you’re better off leaving her.
Whenever someone asks me how can I support Trump, despite his having some relatively ill-formed, ill-advised and unrealistic plans and policies, I always say, if he build the wall, I’ll be good with his performance as President. And that is one thing I really do think he’ll actually do.
Could we make it an aqueduct? California can usually use the water.
Have the Israelis design it, to send some money their way and make-up for the last 7 years.
Excellent! Now maybe we can start freeping talking about how the hell to address a wall on the Rio Grande without cutting off the damn water to South Texas ranchers.
No crap. LOL.
What ever happened to American ingenuity? American getter’ done...effort?
Really... it is just a wall on the border. It isn’t like we’re trying to dig and design the Panama Canal, Hoover Dam, our Mt. Rushmore!
Got into a discussion at work about the proposed wall. Typical liberal complaints that building a wall is “impossible” and would take very long to complete, undermining it’s effectiveness.
I said well, we need about 1000 miles of wall. Would you say a team of 100 workers could build a one mile wall in three months?
“Yes, probably! But we need 1,000 miles of wall! That will take 3,000 months!”
I said ok. If one team of 100 can build 1 mile of wall in three months, 100 teams can build 100 miles of wall in about 3 months. And 1,000 teams can build 1,000 miles of wall in three months. Now, there are logistical issues, planning, etc. I’m no expert. But even quaduple the time needed - we can build 1,000 miles of wall in 12 months, nowhere near 3,000 months.
This upset her greatly.
To her (and many I am sure), building a 1,000 mile wall means you start at one end and build until you get to the other end.
Linear, limited thinking. A graduate of one of our most prestigious law schools. Nobody said they taught creativity and imagination at our finest schools.
Chain link fence. Dead zone with motion detection (can be designed such that digging is detected and also to produce few false positives). 20 foot wall with concrete shell and rammed earth center (to keep the cost down).
In remote areas relatively few towers would be needed as heli borne teams can respond to alarms. Around any population centers guard towers might be necessary depending on how good the motion detection systems are (they need to be designed both for seismic activity and for motion / infrared for above ground activity.
If you are caught in the country illegally - you spend six months hard labor working on the wall. If you are caught hiring illegals - you spend 6 months hard labor working on the wall.
The wall would not be necessary if we only had illegal workers coming in. Those can be stopped by shutting off employment and benefits. But, unfortunately, we have to deal with criminal and islamic incursion also. So we need a wall.
The muslims will then shift to the northern border. At that point additional measures will need to be taken. Like making islam illegal in the US.
Since all muslims (at least all sunni and shia) advocate for the imposition of sharia law over all countries - that makes them traitors to the constitution our government, and way of life. It makes them by definition traitors. And that makes it legal to make the practice of their ‘religion’ illegal.
A wall is fine, but it could be accomplished more cheaply.
US military towers every 500 yards, linked with all of the greatest communications and spotting technology. 2 persons occupy each tower - a spotter and a sniper. Orders are: shoot to kill. Signage everywhere, in Spanish and english.
