Trenchard & Gordon are my two favorite "Founding Grandfathers." Cato's Letters and The Independent Whig can be downloaded (free) here in several formats. Cato's Letters is also available in hardcopy from the same source here.

Where John Locke the philosopher and Cato are both interesting and enlightening, Cato is also just short of hilarious. There’s little wonder why his letters sold so well in newspapers!
