It as a wry sarcasm, without a /s tag. I was rased in the Methodist (Episcopal) church, the son of a Methodist minister, well aware of John's spiritual awakening.
I have the volumes of the 1896 and 1900 Methodist Discipline. Off and on, I have been puuting them in digital-accessible format.
I also know that the Methodist church in America did not welcome any visit from John Wesley. My information says that Mr. Wesley had no liking for the American Revolution.
I am quite sure that the Methodism of the Wesleys and their confreres had no room for anything like the depravity of the UM leadership of this time in history.
