All part of the left taking over the language and changing the meaning of words to suit themselves, all of which Ayn Rand warned against many decades ago.
In grade school I was taught that the word SEX applies to people, who are either male or female but there are some hermaphrodites who are born with features of both sexes as a birth DEFECT. The word GENDER was to be applied only to PRONOUNS and there were THREE genders, not one, not two and certainly not more than three, the three genders of pronouns were masculine (not male), feminine (not female) and neuter.
Unfortunately the English language has been butchered since to the extent that much and I am tempted to say most of what I see in writing now is so vague as to be indecipherable. In all too many cases I wonder if the writer even had an actual thought in mind to begin with because no thought is recognizable.
Gender is a vocabulary term, so they are promoting Newspeak, from 1984.
