1963 Safaris, “Wipeout”, (perhaps more notable is how this song came about).
It was a request from the audio sound engineer for the Safaris to provide a song on the flip side of the 45 rpm disc, they only had one song. They improvised the song and when asked for a name, they were looking for something to signify how a surfboard might crack in two. They didn’t know the term, when somebody in the studio in a high pitched giggling voice said, “Wipeout”. That’s the voice you hear on the track. It received airtime strictly by word of mouth and happenstance, stumbling onto an LA radio station, then took off in the charts.
