Would girls allow ladybugs to crawl on their hands and arms if they didn't have the "pretty" shell.

Posted on 02/02/2020 10:35:37 AM PST by SamAdams76

When I was growing up, we used to catch bugs all the time. In fact, us boys used to catch flies and such and toss them into spider webs to see how the spiders would dart out from their spider hole and wrap their prey into a cocoon and suck the fluids out of them. Pretty cruel stuff, I know.

This was way before their was an internet, video games, and other ways for boys to entertain themselves indoors. In fact, if us boys were indoors at all during the day, our mothers would shove a broom into our hands and put us to work. So we never went indoors and allowed the mothers to hand us peanut butter sandwiches and Kool Aid out the window. We would not come indoors until dinnertime if we could help it.

So anyway, the girls would hang out with us from time to time too and they never wanted anything to do with the bugs. But the ladybugs were a totally different story. They thought the ladybugs were "cute" and they would allow us to put the ladybugs on them and they would watch the ladybugs climb up their arms and who knows where else where.

Thing is, when you remove the pretty shell, a ladybug is a pretty ugly creature, right up there with cockroaches and spiders.

I’ve let lady bugs, love bugs and small wolf spiders crawl on me.

Small wolf spiders are the only spider I’m not terrified of.

They are called “lady” bugs.

When you remove the bushy tail a squirrel becomes a rat.

I let a blood sucker clean out the wound on my leg. Of course, my big brother was orchestrating this life saving measure.

Catching grasshoppers was a great sport. Pinning them on the cardboard was even more fun.

Yeah. Those were the good old days.
Back then, we could even look down in our undies and even tell whether we were a boy or a girl.

I’m sitting wondering who the hell would take the “shell” off the lady bugs in the first place.

Reminds me of one of the great lines from Hans Landa in “Inglourious Basterds”

I propose to you any disease a rat could spread, a squirrel could equally carry. Would you agree? Yet, I assume you don’t share the same animosity with squirrels that you do with rats, do you? Yet, they’re both rodents, are they not? And except for the tail, they even rather look alike, don’t they? However interesting as the thought may be, it makes not one bit of difference to how you feel. If a rat were to walk in here, right now, as I’m talking would you greet it with a saucer of your delicious milk? I didn’t think so. You don’t like them. You don’t really know why you don’t like them. All you know is you find them repulsive.

This is a very interesting question. My daughter loves them.

This is a subject Isaac Asimov has explored at length - the way we fear and kill “ugly” things.

I will never forget watching a daddy long-legs in the garden with my son.

He watched with delight as the daddy long-legs crawled down a weed and noto the ground.

There, another daddy long-legs came up to the first. They touched antennae and began caressing.

“Is that a Mommy long-legs,” he asked.

I laughed.

“No, son. That’s a daddy long-legs, too.”

My boy lifted his right foot and quickly stomped on both of them.

There was a sort of squirt of guts, but otherwise just a mess of legs.

He looked at me and said-

“Well that’s enough of that gay shit in OUR garden!”

A squirrel is just a rat with a better publicist.

Imagine how people would view them if they were called "cute little girl bugs," not just "lady bugs."

I wonder what a "tranny bug" looks like...

Squirrels are a good example of what I’m talking about. Remove the bushy tail and we are suddenly setting traps for them and calling the exterminators if we ever see them in our homes.

Jumping spiders are great... fun to handle and flash signals at, ...and cute.

My favorite when I was a little girl was Phidippus audax, the Audacious/Daring Jumping Spider.
