Always remember the TOS episode “The Tholian Web” in which Chekhov and other crew members of the Enterprise are affected by delusional, maniacal behaviour (because of the gap in space) until Dr. McCoy discovers the antidote by using a derivative of Klingon nerve gas to dull the senses. They do not even have enough sense to understand that he is far above them intellectually and morally.
They must review their written credentials constantly to reassure themselves that they are not of mediocre intelligence or less, but they cannot comprehend an intelligence--and a morality--so far above theirs as Trump's. It's beyond their cognitive capabilities.
