“I don’t trust Sudan”

This is the new Sudan.

The long time islamist dictator (Bashir), who harbored bin Laden for years, employed Obama’s half brother, and conducted bloody (genocidal) jihad against Christians and Animists in the South (Darfur) - was overthrown in April last year. He is awaiting trial, on charges that carry the death penalty.

Sudan has a lot of Red Sea coastline(right across from Mecca), convenient to the massive sea lanes through the Suez Canal, to Europe and Asia. Maybe they can leverage low local costs, to cut some deals with Saudi financing and Israeli know how.

Maybe Dubai Ports World can get their facilities running in short order, and ramping up quickly. They are already doing it a couple of hundred miles up the coast at Ain Soknah, near Cairo. A lot of oil already flows out of Port Sudan. They should be able to diversify that, with good planning and good partners.

The secession of South Sudan took 80% of the oil fields with it, and the new regime in Sudan is desperate for a new economic growth model, after a severe economic crash (that led to the overthrow of Bashir).

Sudan is economically still in bed (and in debt) to China, but they desperately need a way out.
