Magnetic fields protect atmospheres. Prevents the solar wind from stripping off atmosphere by shielding a planet. With little magnetic field Mars lost its atmosphere, or much of it.
A molten core is needed to act as the Dynamo that creates the magnetic field. The Mars core has significantly cooled in the 4.5 billion years it has been around and even though early on it had substantial atmosphere and a strong magnetic field, today the atmosphere is extremely thin and the magnetic field weak because much less of the core is molten.
That at least is the leading theory.

I sure the new green deal will fix this.
Let’s launch AOC and her crew out there to investigate this some more.

Jerusalem Artichokes, aka Fartichokes win the gas producing foods war by miles. They also happen to be delicious both cooked and raw. Perfect for any church pitch in. Raw, sliced or diced on a salad or roasted or mashed into a excellent mashed potato like thing which is even better tasting. They contain a sugar/startch that people can not digest but gut critters love it and go into hyper mega overdrive churning and bubbling away like an extremely active beer fermenter. Rumps trumpet within about two hours and will play the tune for at least twelve. These are the eye watering nose bleeding hydrogen sulphide types of emissions. Go with the mash and add egg yolks and onions to boost available sulphur and coincidentally make the mash even more delicious. Other gas producing foods are molehills next to the Mt. Vesuvius of the mighty Fartichoke.

Occasional release of gas from Uranus is preferred over hot lava eruptions.

The highest winds observed in the solar system have been measured on Neptune with speeds near 1,200 mph near the “older” Great Dark Spot. The equatorial regions of Neptune possess average wind speeds of over 700 mph, which is faster than the speed of sound here on Earth. Uranus has The Great Brown Spot?

Not mine. Ur's may but mine doesn't leak. Mine vents at least 3 - 4 times per day in a controlled manner ranging from depending on circumstances a sneak to forceful blows.
My questions is, does this mean myanus is less, or more effective than uranus?

(The above is not a statement of fact. It is either opinion or satire. Or both.)
