To: Bruce Campbells Chin

I’m with you. If I start boycotting every writer whose personal politics I don’t like, I’ll miss out on a lot of good stories. I’ve read and enjoyed most of Harry Turtledove’s books.

He wrote a short piece once that I’d like to find again. It was just a page or two, written as if the New York Times were reporting on Pearl Harbor and the beginning of U.S. involvement in WWII. The reporting was so negative and defeatist that the U.S. ended up surrendering, as I recall. A lot of people here would see that piece as anti-American, no doubt, but I took it as a condemnation of the NYT.

There was a recent thread on FR about a bunch of leftist SF authors leaping to the defense of conservative-leaning Baen Books and its editor. Here is is:

I think they had a point. As long as Turtledove's views don't infest his writing, I'm not boycotting.
