IMO, the reason you rarely hear about Joe Biden being denied communion is he's careful to only visit liberal, SJW-infested "Catholic" parishes on Sunday mornings. (if he came to my church, my pastor would certainly deny him communion) Unfortunately for him, he didn't have that option when he was campaigning in South Carolina.
