Those three firms hold about 30% of the outstanding shares of CF Holdings. That's not voting control. And CF holds about one-third of the North American production capacity. In other words, the fearporn writer wants me to worry about (and probably buy his fearporn product, nudge nudge, wink wink) some institution's 13% ownership of one-third of the ammonia production capacity. Meh...I'll follow Diana's thread and grow a victory garden. Next.

While we are at it, Blackrock's assets under management (AUM) total doesn't ipso facto mean they OWN all those properties and companies. It means there are investment advisors (IAs) who manage funds branded as a Blackrock fund. Those IAs have a fiduciary responsibility to the people holding shares in the fund, not Blackrock. If the stated objective of those funds is to corner the housing market (as if), then maybe I'll worry. My review of prospectuses reveals most objectives to be maximize return subject to risk.

I appreciate the focus and eyes on these firms. Nothing kills germs like light and disinfectant. But the sophistry and confusion over IAs, AUM, voting control, and several other Finance 101 topics is mind-boggling. But I guess it doesn't matter, as long as Mr Rucker collects his fees.

Your points are very valid.

Ownership is one thing. Control is another.

They may or may not have the control they think they do.

Our government only has control over us if we let them.

How will starving people across the globe and/or booting them out of their homes improve their Bottom Line?

That’s what we need to look at before we panic. ;)
