Define “best.”

Most realistic battle scenes?

Most thrilling action sequences (accuracy be damned)?

Most flattering to America’s heroes?

Most representative of America’s conservative values?

Best sex scenes?

It’s a rather ambiguous question.

I really enjoyed the documentary “They shall not grow old” with the colorized photos from WWI. And stayed for the video after the movie on how they made it and how exacting they were in getting the correct information.

Really brought how terrible war is into focus and real.

Saw it in the theater in 3D. Tears were flowing.

Battle of Algiers is the greatest war movie period. NO other film comes close.

I really like how The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly portrayed the Civil War, showing its brutal nature and how even the officers were broken and tired. At the same time it was not an antiwar movie, nor did it trash America. A very difficult thing to do.

There was a German Stalingrad movie, and a Russian Stalingrad movie made a few years ago. There was one actor who appeared in both. (Hint: He’s pretty much in every war movie featuring Germans)

I completely agree: the Pacific was excellent and it couldn't have been based on two better stories.

My only quibble was the darn sounds - nobody seems to be able to recreate the sounds of rifle fire and nobody apparently ever used grenades.

We used them, a lot.
